I think one is for the garter toss– and then you get to keep the other one

Good question.. Which one do you toss and keep if you do the garter toss??

Yes you need two if you are planning on doing the garter toss. If your not doing the toss then you just wear one. The nicer or larger one goes on your left leg first mid thigh and the second one (for the toss) goes on the left leg but just above the knee. The winner of the garter then takes it off with his teeth and keeps it. At the end of the night the nicer/larger garter is the last thing your husband takes off. Many brides keep it as a keep sake.

@Bride7844: what she said- only the winner of the garter does not take it off with his teeth! He gets nowhere near the bride’s thigh. The groom takes off the garter, and please , show some decorum, no teeth need be involved. After he takes off the garter the groom does the garter toss.

I had two garters because I wanted to keep my real garter and have a “throw away” one for the toss. I bought mine on Etsy and the seller threw in the toss garter at no extra charge.
