@WhatMaeBee: Your post is VERY judgemental. I’m appaled.
“I associate smoking with hippies/Lil’ Wayne wannabees/people that can’t handle life…not my cup of tea. I think it’s immature, trashy, and juvenile. You can’t compare sipping a glass of brut rose with rolling a blunt…not the same thing at all. “
Seems you haven’t met any “stoners” and take your view from the television, or are you don’t see the large ammount of stable people who do smoke. But they keep it from others because they know others view it like you do.
I can compare a glass of wine with marijuana. You drink a glass of wine to relax? If I smoke, I smoke a joint to relax. I’m disgusted by the taste of red wine, so should I be calling red wine drinkers trashy immature and juvenile?
Just because you don’t want to use it, does not mean a person who does is any less of a person, FYI

@bestbuddies: I’m sorry if it seemed like I was attacking you.
I believe the ones who smoke to “party” or to add to the “party” all the time (not on occassion) could use a maturity check. But the ones who use it for reasons to where they need it to comfortably function in life, are in no way shape or form immature.

@kris325: I admitted I’m judgey-I wasn’t trying to hide it. I’ve met too many people who prove to be true to stereotypes. And I don’t drink a glass of wine to relax-I drink a glass of wine because I like the taste every so often…If I used it to relax I’d be an alcoholic since I stress stupid stuff. I teach high schoolers who pull dutch masters out of the sleeves of their shirts as they leave the building…I don’t aspire to be like them.

@kris325:
I’m not sure that I read your comment properly, but if I am right you’re saying that the only symptoms present when you quit are there before you start? If so, that’s not true. My sister suffered drug induced psychosis after quitting weed and had to be put on medication to make the ‘voices’ go away. Before she started smoking she never heard things that weren’t real. She may be in the minority, but she developed issues that were not there before she started smoking.

@bestbuddies: I’d be curious to hear what your stance is on the states that have legalized marijuana overall, like CO & WA, not just the states that have legalized it medicinally, like CA… Do you consider these people still breaking the law, and what do you think the reasoning is for it being against the law to begin with?
The Feds classify marijuana as a stage 1 drug, up there with LSD/Heroin/Ecstacy- however I would argue that all the other stage 1 drugs are waay more harmful, potent, mind-altering & dangerous than marijuana & that marijuana does not belog in that category. Maybe it’s just a personal thing, but I’d much rather take marijuana than any of the listed class II, III & IV drugs that are nearly all prescription like Vicodin, codine, Demerol, Oxycontin… Those drugs are waay more harmful, mostly synthetic, highly addictive, and have massive side-effects….

@gelaine22: Ahahahaha, my stepdad is in the insurance business and he blazes up. He thinks my mom doesn’t know but she knows everything. One time he got up after dinner to “go walk the dog around the block” and in his excitement at my mom letting him go by himself, forgot the dog. You would NEVER know though in every day situations, he looks like a regular ole middle-aged executive.
@bestbuddies: but alcohol used to be illegal too. so just because it became legal, it means it’s no longer a drug? since marijuana is legal in some states, does that mean it’s not a drug in some of those states but a drug in the states where it is legal? Not trying to be mean or anything, just trying to understand your argument, since alcohol is a pretty serious addictive substance.

@Lovemelovemyhorses: I’m sorry for your sister. However those “voices” could have been there before, and many adults don’t start to hear “voices” until they are well into adult hood, so to blame it on marijuana is aggrivating to me. Not you, but the scientists and doctors who continue to claim “induce psychosis” as I know many people well into their 50s and 60s who have smoked on and off their most of their lives and when they quit, not one of them has ever been psychotic in any way. I’ve been surrounded by pot heads my entire life, and have known more pot heads than I could count, and not one of them has suffered psychosis on or off marijuana unless it was there before hand. However, I am well aware in many cases psychosis does not start until adult hood or show the symptoms at least, and I’ve been on the other end where doctors claim my issues are marijuana induced. Doctors had the nerve to say “You had a seizure because you were smoking marijuana” although marijuana is well known to be an anti convulsant. And even though I had them without marijuana and even though I had them before ever smoking. Then I have anxiety from the seizure and they say “Your anxiety is caused by marijuana” even though marijuana is used to help anxiety and even though I told them my anxiety was from the seizure.
They like to blame marijuana because it’s easy for them.

@Lovemelovemyhorses: I have read some stories in the news about this & am very curious. Most the news I read of these episodes had to do with people using the fake weed sold in head shops which is really bath salts/formadahyde or using weed that was laced with something more serious unbeknowst to them- Was your sister using real pot or something else?

@kris325: oh, its ok. I didnt explain myself well in my original post. I associate immaturity with being selfish; doing illegal drugs for the “fun of it” not caring how it could affect your future or your family. For example, you are a parent with kids and smoke pot at the end of the day to relax. You get a surprise drug test at work and loose your job and get arrested, etc. Like I said, I feel that mature people dont do illegal things and things that could severly jeopardize their family and future. If you have a medical condition that requires a perscription for marajuana then fine. If marajuana is not illegal where you live and your job doesnt care…then I dont really see a problem. You are not being immature and reckless.
you may not agree but thats how I feel. And I think that my statements are resonable and not judgemental.

@atlbride2013: I totally get what you are you saying. I guess I associate drugs with taking substances that are illegal. which isnt really the definition. I know how dangerous alcohol is and that it can be more dangerous that some drugs that are actually illegal.

so when it comes to alcohol vs marajuana. I dont think it has anything to do with maturity.
I am not sure I am explaining myself well 🙁

@AnonBeeLee: Absolutely not! They’re 16 or 17…not in their late 20’s or older. I think if someone was going to explore and try it then, I can see it being part of being a teenager. I have different opinions of those who I know smoke on their way to school at 8am and as soon as they leave, than those who may smoke at a party…but I’d never write them off. They’re kids.
