Never have never will. I think that’s far too big of a risk to take.

I pass an entrance/exit of the Appalachian Trail on the way to work. I always pick up those folks being a veteran of the trail as well. It’s part of the code.

Nope. I think horror movies pretty much ruined that for everyone.

I don’t think I’d hitchhike either. I might flag someone down and ask to use their cell phone if mine wasn’t working for some reason to call AAA/a cab/my husband/my mom/whoever… but i would not get in a stranger’s car I don’t think.

Never.  In this day and age, I think it’s far too unsafe.

I think hitchhiking used to be safer (like 30 years ago) and many “normal” people did it… but these days, not as many people do so your odds of picking someone up who is going to stab you are much higher.

@CorgiTales:  There are long breaks off the trail. It is sometimes miles to pick up the trail again. Plus sometimes hikers get sick, run out of food, etc.

Never!  And that’s saying something because I used to go to communte to college through Amish country and they were usually Amish people.  I’m just too freaked out that I’ll end up a story on the local news.  But then again, I’m also the kind of person that always drives with their doors locked.  Ever since my car stereo got stolen I’m obessed with keeping my car doors locked all the time.

I would NEVER pick up a hitchhiker.
