@Payless:  Thank you for explaining!  I really have no idea how it works in the military, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me

my husband and I are both in, so we both draw single bah, which is around 1800 each. We live in a shoebox, but it’s a 900 a month shoebox, so between salaries and bah we make out like bandits. It’s going to be a considerable paycut when I get out and we move back east.

ETA also utilities are covered. t

We are in WA state. When we were engaged we pocketed a little. Couple hundred. Lived in a tiny apt. 3 years ago we bought a house. We pay out of pocket a little now but I work so its not a huge deal.

@Payless:  yes. DH is deployed but throughout our engagement he chose rental places that were way less than BAH. When we finally live together we are already planning on coming in several hundred below BAH. We don’t have kids and I suspect things will change when we do (it will be more important to have a nice place.)

@Payless:  Oh wow that sucks, sounds like he almost missed deployment. I’m glad you get Christmas but sorry you won’t get V-day. I am so glad you get the puppy while he’s gone though what a comfort. My hubs has been gone for a couple months now and I could use a dog!

@Payless:  I also wish the bee had a deployment section. I feel bad posting on actual military forums because so many people there have kids and I cannot even compare to what they are going through (having to get kids off to school on time even when you’re depressed, having to be sole childcare provider abruptly, kids being sad and having to cheer them, etc). I am lucky because he is not gone for a year, and he will be back in a few months. The first dew months were extremely hard and now I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Focusing on my diet!! Good luck with your new puppy, what is the breed?
