I’m on a mission to get fit, lose weight and run my first half marathon this spring! I’m doing well, but I can’t seem to find the time to run! I don’t have a treadmill and it’s not light enough to run before work, and it’s dark when I get home.
Do you run in the dark? Any tips to do it safely?
My usual route means that I cross the main road I live on, and take a small road into a village. Most of the run is through the village. There are wide flat shoulders and good visibility. I have some reflective gear, a blinky light arm band and a headlamp.
I think my current route is safe, and there isnt’ much thru traffic since the main road bypasses the village, but there are a lot of houses and people driving to work, so it’s not desolate or anything.I used to run at night when it was dark in the winter, but I’d rather run in the morning now, since I think it is safer. I’d be running between 6am and 7am. I take the same route and my husband would be home and know where I am going and when I should be home. I take my phone for gps and music, but usually only run with 1 headphone in. I can run without music, and probably would in the mornings.
I’m a little nervous after hearing about the woman who went missing during her morning run out west. I never thought about it too much before now, but I have a 9 month old son and a husband, and I want to be safe.
Do you run with defense spray or a weapon?
