I was not able to get into my doctor this early (not until nearly 12 weeks) so I’m unsure about this early, but I can tell you that every visit I went to, the doctor laid me back on the table and used the little doppler machine to check on the heartbeat. I would think you’d get to hear the heartbeat every time. They will probably attempt to find the heartbeat with the doppler, but don’t worry if they can’t, because it’s true that that can be early to hear it.

Every OB does things differently. Mine tries to find the heartbeat at every apt, and if they don’t I’d get an ultrasound.

Exactly what pp said.  I have an u/s at every appointment (every 30 days) but we didnt get the doppler at each appt until maybe like 18-20 weeks.  Id call them and ask what to expect

I’d call to ask too if you’re really wondering about it, as experiences seem to differ. I had my first appt at 9 weeks, but the doppler wasn’t used until I was another month along. I’ve only had one ultrasound though, and won’t get another one until much later in my pregnancy (30+ weeks)

every dr. is so different, its hard to say.  Mine did an ultrasound at most appointments, if not then a doppler.   She always saw or heard the baby, but I have no idea if that is the norm.

Wow, you got an appointment early. They wouldn’t even let me come in unti 10 weeks I think because a lot of times when they search for the heart beat on the dopplar they can’t find it because it’s too early. If you can’t hear it at your appointment today there is no need to freak. You could always rent a dopplar if you’re that worried.
