No you’re not the only one!
Seriously, why do stylists always feel like they have to entertain me or get to know everything about me?? I’m there to have my hair done and if i needed to share private thoughts with a stranger i would go to a therapist. I have to talk all day long at work, i’m happy whenever i can just sit there quietly and relax. My last stylist loved me when he realized that i’m probably the only woman who doesn’t want to talk or hear what he has to say. He was happy that he could just concentrate on his work and enjoyed the silence 🙂

yea i like comfortable silences too lol that’s when you know you have something special. with my hair, i feel a little more obligated to talk but like i said, mine is really cool and easy to talk to and it’s not put on. we usually just talk a little in the beginning and catch up and then towards the end, we’re just kinda quiet.
when i get my mani/pedi done though, that’s a different story. i dont go to the same person all the time, but i go to the same nail salon and i don’t like to talk at all..not even on the phone. that is defintely my relaxation time. i always see women in the nail salon together yapping the whole time, or on their cell phones. i don’t understand it.

My mom is a hair stylist and she rather not talk to her clients while doing their hair. She said when clients talk and talk, it distracts her and they also tend to move alot, which makes it more difficult to cut or style hair.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. It depends on the stylist and how talkative Im feeling. If I dont feel a connection with the person then no, but if I do then usually I will. However, I never talk while getting my hair washed because that is my favorite part of getting a hair cut – its soo relaxing!

We keep up conversation off and on, but definitely not for the entire time I’m getting my hair done. But I’ve been going to the same woman for 12 years.

i’m a stylist and i do enjoy conversation with my clients. if they don’t want to chat i’m completely fine with that, but i feel its nice to get to know one another so the next time they come we have stories to share and its a good way to suggest styles, cuts etc.,,when you know their personality so you know what will work for them. just my opinion though

It depends. A long time ago, one of my stylists ended up turning into my best friend, so obviously we were completely ridiculous and had a lot to talk about.
However, the stylist I’ve been going to for about 5 years now is very different from me. I always feel like my life is so damn boring when I’m sitting in her chair, and I’m terrible at small talk, so it’s usually pretty quiet and awkward. It makes it worse that she’s got this huge personality, so I feel like a dud. 🙂 Oh well, we can’t all be socially fabulous. 🙂

LOL this thread is so funny because I’m kind of the same way… sometimes its weird to make small talk, especially if you don’t know them too well. I feel like there are awkward silences, but then was wondering if that’s normal!

my hair stylist is my cousin….so we pretty much can’t stop talking. haha. 🙂

Not me I’ve been going to my girl for years now! So her and I always pipe up in conversation. Unless of course my mom has beat me to it with her appointment…which I hate ’cause I like to be the one to tell her. I’m inviting her to the wedding too! She will do my hair then come party down with me! 🙂
