I think the closer to the wedding date the better, and I think going for your 1 year anniversary is pushing it (seems like an anniversary vacation to me). The truth is a lot of people can’t go on vacation right after the wedding, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t have a honeymoon. Fiance and I will go away for a night or two, but we can’t go on our honeymoon right away. Fiance is in school so we will probably do christmas break (1 month after the wedding) or spring break (4 months after the wedding) but I am hoping we won’t have to wait until summer break (7 months after the wedding). I will be starting a new job and I have no idea when I will be able to miss a week of work- that’s just life! We will work something out and it will be amazing- and if anyone wants to tell the honeymoon police, they can go ahead, lol.

I don’t really care what people call their vacations wether it’s a few months of a year after they are married, but I definately wouldn’t be telling people i’m going on my honeymoon a few months after the wedding. It’s just weird in my opinion.

I’m going to delay my honeymoon to 6month to a year after our wedding, no point going into debt for a luxury honeymoon. Yes we can afford a cheaper one but that would defeat my idea of honeymoon.

However, anything after a year mark…. I cannot call it a honeymoon cuz’ it’s no longer a newlyweb anymore.  I know some friends skip honeymoon.

Ours is going to be about 9-10 months after the wedding but I’m still calling it our honeymoon! We couldn’t get away any earlier due to my job. I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s not our honeymoon, as we haven’t taken a trip after the wedding yet, and this trip is to celebrate us being married and it’s just for us 2 🙂

skippydarling:  This is another one of the wedding things that makes me laugh. A honeymoon is whenever the married couple wants it to be. Traditionally, the newlywed period is 2 years.  So the idea of a honeymoon being a newlywed trip is still followed several months after the wedding.

Also, I saw a few bees post that marriage isn’t new after several months of being married. I can understand wanting to take a honeymoon immediately following the wedding but the notion that after a few months the marriage is old is incredibly sad to me. I pray that isn’t the case for my Fiance and I. We plan to take the advice of our mentor couple who has been happily married for 45 years- keep the newlywed sweetness, excitement, conscientiousness and passion forever.
