Depends where I am in the sickness cycle. If it’s that very early “uh oh I think I’m coming down with something” point, then yes. Sometimes this sweating it out approach keeps me from getting sick. And if I’m starting to come out the other side, I find that sweating helps me feel better faster. But if I’m in the full-on “ugh, I am sick” part, then absolutely not. Let your body use its strength reserves to fight the illness, not to try and lift some weights!

It depends. If it’s just the sniffles, working out usually makes me feel better. But if my body needs the rest more than I’ll skip it.

NOTLBride:  I try to, but I also want my body to recover. They say if it is above the chest, you can work out. Anything chest or below you should wait, so if I have a cough, I don’t exercise. Stuffy nose, headache, I still go through with it.

Yeah depends- above the neck with no fever (ie a cold), then usually yes. Anything tummy-related or with a fever, then no.

if it’s just a cold, then i will. i just chew gum or suck on candy to keep my throat from getting dry/irritated and making me cough, and go for it.

if it matters, i don’t work out in the traditional sense. my workout consists of my 2 hour dance practice.

It depends on how I’m feeling and whether or not I’m running a fever.

    Fever – NO.

Anything else – if I feel like I can manage a workout, or even part of one, I’ll push through

Like many others, it depends on how sick or what kind of sick…I do think that keeping my body moving and sweating can be beneficial, but if I have a fever or a bad cough I won’t.  Sniffles or something light, I’ll probably do a less intense workout.  I also just listen to my body- if I start a workout and feel like it’s doing more harm than good, I’ll stop.

If it’s just a little cold, I can power through. If it’s something more serious and function-limiting like fever, malaise, GI bug, then I just have to rest and not workout.

I used to dance still when I was young.  Now, no.  The risk of dying is too great.
