I’m a size 4 with a .8 carat ring. I think 1 carat will be plenty!

No way! Mine is about .95ct cushion cut center stone AND cushion cuts face up way smaller so this would look like a .75 round actually. I’m also a 4.5 finger so this would be a good reference for you😃, In the end it’s all about what YOU like though! Xo

1carat should be plenty big on a size 4.5 finger. As a reference mine is 1.2 carat and I wear a size 3.5. I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for but I hope this helps.

I don’t have a 1 carat stone but that was the first size I tried on (I think because we hear so much about 1 carat rings). It looked good on my hand and was plenty substantial (I wear a 4.75). As a PP said, depending on the cut of your stone, you could get something that faces up a bit wider while still weighing 1 carat.

I believe I am a 4.5 (UK bee, so relying on conversion charts) with a 0.4 diamond. I know diamonds tend to be smaller here (averaging about .5) but when I tried on a 1ct it felt like it drowned my hand so I definitely wouldn’t say it’s too small.

I sure hope it’s not too small! Mine is .34 carats on a 4.5ish finger, and I think it’s perfect. Tried on a couple larger stones, but they felt clunky or in the way and (to me) just way too huge on my finger, so I’m glad he went with a smaller stone. I think it’s just fine proportionately and wouldn’t change it. 🙂

IMG_4321So mine is a 1.3 on a 3.75 finger. If you’re worried about it being too small, my suggestion is to go a bit above a carat*. Mine looked huge to me when I first got it, and now every once in a while I feel like it looks smaller. It honestly depends on the day/light/etc.

Edited to add: *Go up if it’s in the budget. Not trying to make anyone go into debt!

natashagill :  thank you! I have no idea what size band. Yes, there are small diamonds underneath the center stone. It’s called a skirt setting. I like it because it gives the illusion that the center stone is larger, and you see the diamonds from all angles. Here’s another picture that shows the setting more clearly.

Have you gone into a jewelry store to try any on? I tried on some 1 carat rings and thought they were good coverage for my 5.75 finger. I ended up with a 1.5 carat equivalent because that was the only size available for an OEC moissanite at the time, but would have been happy with 1 ct. Also some settings and cuts will face up larger, so keep that in mind.

It may depend on the cut.

I have a 1ct radiant and a 1.3ct round. Face up they look the same to me, size wise. I have a size 7 finger.
