Where I’m from 1ct is quite large.

    Average ’round here is 0.5ct.

Where I am from 1ct is considered modest. I think most of the girls I know have at least a 1ct.

In my circle it’s about average.

I consider it pretty modest. Most women I know have a minimum of 1.5 but more usually 2-2.5, with older women who have upgraded having 3-4.5 cts. But in America it really depends on where you live and your social class/group.

I think it depends on your social environment. In my opinion, my 1-carat is on the lower side of average for the MD area. I think there are far more people in the DC – suburban MD area who have 1.5-2 ct rings as an average size. So if that’s the case, then my ring would be considered a bit modest or smaller than average but that’s average for my social environment. At work, my ring is considered “big” because of the fact that I work closer to Delaware and Pennsylvania. Most women in my office wear 0.5 carat or smaller.

@Audrey2:  I agree and I’m UK too. When I got my ring I thought it was blingtastic, not because it has large stones but just because of the setting with pave shoulders then I came on here and I was like yowza! I have never seen a ring any bigger than 1 carat in a plain setting in the flesh. Here’s pics of mine to illustrate my point, tiny and unblingy compared to some of the beautys on the bee. I do love it though and wouldn’t swap it for the world.

Around here, it’s pretty big. Most people either have cluster rings, or something .75 or below.

My SO has a 1.15 carat diamond & I’m actually surprised with the fact that it’s not bigger. I guess I’ve always heard that a 1 ct is big so I expected it to be bigger? Plus all the stupid giant 8 carat celebrity rings make a 1 carat look small in comparison. I’ll be the first of my friends engaged so I also have nothing to compare my ring to as to what the “norm” is.

I would also say it depends on your class. Wealthier groups will probably have bigger stones, but lower class groups are likley to have smaller stones.

I have a 1/2 carat center stone with a halo setting and it totals 5/8. Fiance and I are middle class, but we’ve been paying off debt from college so with that and the cost of a wedding, a larger stone just wasn’t a smart purchase at the time. We’ve just bought a nice band to go with it though. 🙂

Mine is 1ct and high quality. It’s on the smaller end among my best friends, but mine is the sparkliest 🙂 I think it’s average – the US is really different!

Around here it’s about average.  I think most people in the area I live have about a 1 carat.  I work at a law firm also, so I’m actually used to seeing the wives of the lawers with huge ol’ rocks.

@Audrey2: Thank you!  I love my 3 stone. I thought I would get a solitaire but they just didn’t look nice on my chubby fingers at all.

I think it depends on the finger and the region.  I would say that 1 ct would be average to slightly large
