Looks custom to me!!!
Looks custom to me!!!
When Fiance and I were looking for e-rings, we went to one of the local jewelry stores and as I described to them what I wanted (a simple solitaire with 2mm side stones) they drew it up. Viola! A custom designed ring that tends to be readily available. And, they based the drawing off of two different pictures I showed them. It’s really easy to make a custom design off of images you’ve seen around. Even if you see something a lot like it, it could easily be custom designed. I wouldn’t doubt him 🙂
I think its beautiful and like PPs haven’t seen a baquette halo before so I think it is. Plus the size of the halo to the center makes me think that aa sales lady may have said it would be ‘custom made’ to hold the center stone properly. We heard that a few times when shopping around.
@Everdeen: The best part about your post is that I just woke up after feeling happy from too many glasses of red wine. I don’t feel so happy now. Gotta love the time difference!
Anyways, OP, there are so many different rings out there, it’s hard to tell. I’ve never seen anything like it on the Bee, and hopefully your Fiance isnt someone to fudge it, so I’d see no reason to doubt him. Go enjoy your pretty ring.
I just wanted to add that I used to work in a goldsmith shop. They custom made everything from simple solitaires to intricate halos. All from scratch. Nothing irks me more than when someone takes a die cut, prefabbed setting and plops in some stones and calls it “custom”. OP, just enjoy your ring. It’s very pretty.
why does it even matter? if you can’t trust him to tell you the truth about your ring then…I won’t even finish that sentence.
@MrsWBS: I don’t think it’s a trust issue, I think it’s about boys not really understanding what custom made means and not wanting to burst his bubble about it.
Lot’s of males who have to have a ring made in a certain size and/or metla type then believe that the ring is “custom made”, where as in reality custom made really refers to the design, not the size and/or metal type. Or if they picked out the diamonds to go into a particular setting then they see it as custom made.
The OP likely doesn’t want to question her Fiance too deeply for fear of hurting his feelings, but she is midly curisious to see what The ‘Bee thinks.
I hope that made sense, if not, please refer to above post RE red wine.
The jeweler that we use can easily make designs while you sit in the store. They do a draw up on the computer. Its a pretty easy process if you know what you want and if the jeweler knows what they are doing. The ring looks custom made to me. You really should just believe your Fiance and appreicate what he did, its looks like he really worked hard to provide the type of ring you wanted so please dont burst his bubble.
This isn’t the office, we are here to go “Oh, your ring is STUNNING!”
You don’t have to pretend to question if your ring is custom-made if you really want to say “Hey, look at this TOTALLY awesome ring my Fiance designed! Isn’t he AMAZING!”
I’ve never seen anything like it!
Rings don’t even have to be unusual to be custom though. Mine’s custom made and it’s a six prong solitaire! The prongs aren’t the usual way round though, it’s low set, no cathedral or trellis and the head is built into the shank. No-one notices those details but they were just for me.
I understand your curiosity and the Weddingbee is supposed to be a place where we can ask for advice and not be judged, like a separate universe! That’s how I see this community anyways.
It absolutely looks custom to me. The baguettes and round stones in the halo are very original. Looks so art-deco vintage!! I have a shapphire ring with a similar style and I thought it was sooo original. I’ve never seen a diamond ring like that though.
Could we get pics of the three rings you had originally picked? That would help decipher which elements he fused together to make your ring 😉
Some jewelry stores will lead people who are uninformed to believe they’ve “custom” designed a ring just by changing one small detail. Like my ring, it is NOT custom and DH did not design it. However, because we upgraded the center stone with a larger, higher quality, certified stone, the sales person tried to impress us by saying it was a custom ring. Now, it has been customized, but that does not make it a custom original design.
So I don’t think guys are lying when they say they designed the ring. A lot of times they changed something, and the person behind the counter made them feel special… And, of course, they want to impressed their Fiance by telling them they designed the ring.
Now that doesn’t mean ALL guys do that. Some of them actually do sit down and work with a jeweler drawing out idea, looking at proto-types, etc.
The important thing is that our guys want to spend the rest of their lives with us, and it doesn’t matter whether the ring is custom designed or not!!! We’re all very lucky and blessed!!!!
