My theme is kind of vintage shabby chic, my colour scheme is dusky peaches and pinks, ivory, cream and white. My dress is ivory and the BMs are in dusky peach and black, the men are in black, white and charcoal. I love my cake but I am unsure whether I need a cake topper. I started making a brooch one (stole the idea off of a fellow bee) the brooches i am using are silver, cream, pearl, bronze, so quite neutral colours – i am half way through but I am not sure if i like it (it certainly doesnt look even half as good as the inspiration pic although I still have a ways to go, more brooches to add and the letter to paint). I really wanted something a bit different – me and my partner are not fans of the bride and groom toppers and he hates the sparkly monogram ones. I’m now wondering if my cake even needs a topper. What do you bees think?

Your cake is gorgeous, it doesn’t NEED one but cakes don’t really need them. I think it’s a matter of personal preference. I think the one you are making is super cute and you should use it if you want it.

I don’t think a cake ever needs one. If you love yours and want to use it, then by all means, do it, but your cake doesn’t need it.

I think it looks great without one!

I don’t see the need for one. There is alot of detail already, very pretty!

I think it would look better without a cake topper.

Nope, doesn’t need it. Actually, I think it would really detract from the beauty of the cake if you use one.

I think the cake look gorgeous without a topper- The one you’ve made would just be too much.
You could display the pretty one you’ve made somewhere else though, maybe by the card box?

I think you have to choose between the bow and the topper… it’s way to much with both.

I love the design of the cake, and I think I’d go without a cake topper. I think it’s perfect as-is, and I’d be afraid of throwing the whole feel off if you add something else.

if you go with a topper keep it simple cause the cake has so much going on on it already it will just look cluttered
go with a simple letter topper with a few jewl stones on it

@fayrhiannon: Love the cake without a topper! But your topper is very cute and unique. You could use the cake topper on the groom’s cake, or find a way to use it to decorate the cake table. That’s what I’m doing. I want the wedding cake to be really pretty, but we simply MUST use Charlie Brown and Frieda (the little red-haired girl) as our cake topper. so I’m putting them on the groom’s cake, which can be more fun while my wedding cake is still elegant.

I don’t think it needs one, but the brooch topper you created is AMAZING! Would you mind sharing your technique with me on how you did it?
