Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I have already stated that I know I have no say in what she wears and I never intended on controlling what she wears. She’s an adult and can do what she wants. Doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion.
It seems like responses are almost half and half…I’m just worried about the short dress with sheer overlay outside in the sunshine and light. I just don’t think the dress is a great choice…and buying a dress from Express for $70 for your sons wedding? They’re wealthy so it’s kinda cheesy.

armywifetobe : it’s a nice dress for a summer party or when on vacation but even for a normal wedding guest in her 50 -ies I think it is a bit to young so I wouldn’t be very happy when my future Mother-In-Law picked this one for my wedding.

I didn’t take time to read all five pages of responses, so I apologize if someone before me has already suggested this. However, perhaps you can voice your concerns in a positive manner and they would be well received. For example:
“You know, Future Mother-In-Law, I’ve been thinking more about what you asked me regarding my thoughts on the dress that you plan to purchase for the wedding. Although it’s pretty, I’ve been thinking that, due to the high-low hem, it could end up looking dated in a couple of years in the pictures. Also, given the fact that there is an underlay that shows through, I also am wondering how that may translate in pictures as well, especially those taken outside in bright sunlight. I just wanted to mention these considerations in case they may affect your choice.”

Do your invitations specify “black tie”? Otherwise, how formal could it be? I think a 50 year old with a great body could absolutely rock this, especially if it’s a summer wedding.
