The only ‘Avery’s I’ve ever known are guys, but I can see it being gender-neutral.

@roxy821:  I think you’re exactly right with everything you’re thinking.  Older generations would consider it primarily a boy’s name, but most of the children being named Avery now are probably girls. I think the name definitely works for a cute little blonde girl (that is the description of the one female Avery whom I know personally) and as a successful career woman.  I also know/have known three Kendalls (all girls — one child, two adults), three Mackenzies (two teens; one child), one Paige (adult), one Cheyenne (child); and one Charlotte, who was in her 70s.  They’re all beautiful names!

Could be both but what pops in my head is male because there’s a boy in school named Avery.

I have taught both a female Avery and a male Avery in my class but I would tend to think it is more feminine in sound. It is on my list for a girl as well.

@roxy821:  I knew several McKenzie’s in high school who went by Kenzie and always thought they were malicious girls, so I have a natural distaste for that name. I think all the others are fine, but in order of my favorite it would be Avery, Charlotte, Paige, Cheyenne, and Kendall. I think Charlotte is a great name for a girl, because I adore Charlie as a female nickname. 🙂

Reading some previous posts, I agree that Paige is a great middle name.

Edit: Pah! I forgot to say that I think of Avery as gender-neutral, leaning towards female. I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow if a man/woman introduced themselves as Avery, though.

@JlovesM:  Avery is also his Last name, not his first.

I voted girl. Typically when its heard on ESPN it is the athlete’s LAST name. Same goes for the character on Grey’s Anatomy

    Love the name Avery!!!

I think it’s neutral but it was only after joining WB that I discovered it wasn’t just a boys name.

I like Charlotte, is their ettiquette about “stealing” this name?

I’m a fan of Avery for a girl’s name — it is on my list too 🙂 I think it’s leaning more towards a girl’s name now. Kenzie is a cute option too!
