Our colors for our wedding party are pink and gray; here’s one of our inspiration photos:
I apologize if the photo is giant 🙁 Fiance prefers the look of everyone in grey, like this wedding and would prefer to wear a grey suit as we’re getting married in the summer:
I love that look as well, but finding a grey bridesmaid dress on a budget is proving to be difficult (“budget” being preferably in the $100-$125 range). So I thought that maybe we could switch the above picture, put the girls in black dresses (re-wearable! holla!) and keep the guys in grey suits.
My Maid/Matron of Honor is afraid it’ll look weird b/c the girls will be in a more “masculine” color – what do you ladies think?

How is black a more masculine color than grey? I don’t see that at all.

I think it would look fabulous, and I also can’t imagine how anyone could think that black is masculine but grey is not.

I like the color combo! I’d say if the girls are in black, it’d be nice to pair it up with a brighter, more bold pink for a summer wedding. I don’t view black as a “masculine” color per say, but a classic, kinda sexy color. Go for whatever you like!

I think it would look great however you choose because those colors all look superb together. 🙂
Sorry I’m not much help, haha.

I don’t think it will look weird at all…besides…they will be holding bouquets which will definitely add a pop of color. I think it will look great.

I actually prefer the contrast (men and women wearing opposite colors). It is less matchy-matchy. I don’t think having the women in black while the men in gray will look bad at all. First, I doubt the guys (other than your groom) would even think that the women are wearing more “masculine” colors than they are. I think your Groom is having a little bit of Wedding brain thinking too much into the colors. Glad to know he is at least engaged n the planning! 😉

I do have to be honest, I think have both the guys and girls in grey looks a little odd. How about doing something like the picture above with the black suits and grey dresses? Or maybe putting the girls in something pink? Just ideas.

Alfred Angelo has a charcoal color that looks like it is the same color of the dresses in your picture. I got my dresses from them and they are $115. I know most of their dresses are within the price range you are talking about.
If you are really not into that idea I think you are fine doing the girls in black and guys in gray. Maybe you could even do a black dress with a pink sash to make it match you colors a little more.

@roxy821 – I thought about changing the dresses to pink but I really, really wanted the dress to be a neutral color so it will *hopefully* be worn again. That and some skin tones just don’t really work with some shades of pink and I want all my girls to feel fabulous.
And I originally wanted the guys in black, but Fiance prefers grey 🙂 He is more involved than the typical groom so I don’t want to override him since, after all, he is the one wearing it lol.
Hmm…who knew as a bride you would spend this much time thinking about freaking COLORS?!? lol

I don’t think black cocktail dresses is that “masculine”

I think black on women is very classic and elegant. They don’t call it a little black dress for nothing. Grey suits with grey dresses would be weird. If Fiance wants to wear grey I think black dresses is the perfect solution.

I think having contrast in the men vs women colors will look better. If you want the women to wear grey, keep an eye on J Crew sales – right now, they have a bunch of dresses within your budget. Otherwise, I think it will look fine to have the women in black dresses and the men in grey suits.

Most bridesmaid’s lines have a grey option… sometimes it looks silver in some fabrics that aren’t totally matte. I ordered mine from netbride.com for 120 per girl including shipping to Canada.
