@MrsNeutrino: this year I’m wearing a simple champagne colored dress I bought from H&M.

We renewed our vows at 6 years. I thin vow renewals are amazing and recommend everyone to do it!

I really don’t understand the every year thing – there are so much better things to put the money towards and it just seems like a waste of time and money, and overkill. If you want to go over your vows again because it’s sweet…well, just read your vows, I have our ceremony in a nice booklet and go through it when feeling romantic or sappy, lol. But buying a fancy dress and involving your kids and going through a ceremony every year? I think 25 or 50 year vow renewals are romantic, but…I really just don’t get every year. *shrug*

@Wonderstruck: totally agree! I don’t get the every year thing…but totally think 25 or 50 years is romantic, and special. I think every year is overkill.. but to each their own.

@Mrs.H2B: Yeah, agre that to each their own. Sorry if my first post sounds at all snarky guys, I realized after tht it might a bit and I don’t mean to offend anyone, the evry year thing just isn’t for me.

We are already planning a vow renewal and we aren’t even married yet. : ) But in our case, we know we want to get married “again” when it’s legal as we are a gay couple. But the second time around will be just the two of us (okay, and maybe another fancy dress for me) in a beautiful location. My partner gets full creative control for the vow renewal and I can’t wait to be surprised. : )

We are, next year for our 30th!  Kids and granddaughters will be there with us! 😀  The big expense will be the venue, because it will be at our AI resort membership-so a Destination Wedding, but it will be fairly simple.  My dress is one I got on sale for $89.00 and I am DIY a few simple items to bring for decor/special touches.  🙂

i dont know if we will. i think it would be fun. i would never do a big huge reception that cost thousands of dollars. it would be something small and intimate if we do (kind of like our wedding was!).  And if we ever do a vow renewal, i would want it to be on our 10 year as that is when we are set to open our wine box.  though vow renewal or not, we will do something extra special for our 10 year because of the wine box.  and then again on the next opening however many years later.

I think that the fact we have our wine box to open every year is almost like a vow renewal.  We have more than just a love letter inside, we have momentos from the wedding.  And then every year after we will add pictures or something that made us closer the year prior.  I would say vow renewals are more for big anniversaries, such as 25 or 50, but whatever brings you closer is great…..  I can’t wait till our one year and we’ve only been married 2 months, lol……………….

I don’t know anyone who has ever had one or whose parents had one.  Have these been popular for a long time?

My grandparents had one at 50 years which the whole family put on. I would definitely do that. I would not, however, do the reality show style vow renewal, where your marriage is falling apart so you renew your vows then file for divorce…

I would love to do one for 10 years, Darling Husband said he wouldnt do one any earlier than that! If/when we do it we will probably just either do it just the two of us on a beautiful island somewhere or just have a few friends and immediate family

ETA: I live in VA and have been to 1 vow renewal…my aunt and uncle renewed their vows at 15 years and it was done in a church with about 50 people total. Then they had a reception (just dinner) afterwards

I wouldn’t ever want to do one. Planning a wedding almost killed me the first time :).

I can’t imagine doing it, honestly.  Talk to me in 20 years ; )
