Hi! I am having a makeup artist come to my home to do my makeup along with some bridesmaids and family. The makeup artist normally works for a salon but I privately contacted her. My question is, Do I tip her on top of this?! If I were a client at at the salon she works at, I would without a doubt but since all the proceeds go to her directly at my home, I am unsure. Please advise! Also, how much would you recommend tipping?

I tipped my makeup artist; roughtly 21%; she waived the travelling fee.

Generally, if someone is self employed then it is not necessary to tip because they will be earning 100% of the profits. So, it isn’t necessary. That being said, if she does a good job I would tip her. I generally tip everyone who performs a service exceptionally well.

No, you are never required to tip the business owenr or person working for themselves

@RahlyRah: Those are my thoughts on it as well. If a lawyer or accountant quoted me a price for their services, I would not tip them if they did a better job than expected (they are already getting paid enough)…I am already paying a premium because I know she will do a good job and 100% of the proceeds are going to her, which is why I reached out to her directly. I think it’s different if I hired her from a salon where her cut is 50%.
