(Closed) do you tip officiant when eloping?

Good question!  I don’t think I was planning to tip them, just what their fee is.

 

I’d like to see what others say.  I hear if it’s a municipal person (JOP, etc), then they cannot accept tips.  But I don’t have any validation on that.

Depending where you are getting married a lot only work on tips so 40-60$ tip is customary

We had a justice of the peace. Her fee was $150, and she donates her fees to charity. Each month she has a different charity she supports. I love that! No tipping.

The officiants I am looking at have their own website, photos of them, blurbs and prices (there’s a competition for officiants here).  In a case like this, I don’t think going beyond the fee is necessary.

We tipped a 40$ gift card for our officiant to the place we had met him (paint your own pottery). I dont think its necesarry but it is nice.
