Leahsnow:  Sounds like fun…design away. Personally I don’t have that type of time nor patience 🙂

I hope you have more artistic talent, than I do. Any self-designed gown of mine would be frightful.

My mother sewed her own wedding dress for her second wedding, but it was a very simple sheath dress with empire waist, for which she followed a pattern just with white fabric. She has always been a very frugal person and couldn’t justify spending hundreds or thousands on a dress for one day for a second wedding in her 40’s, so she made it instead 🙂 It looked lovely and fit well because she made it to her measurements. I wouldn’t recommend making anything more complicated than a sheath or A-line dress unless you have prior experience (my mom has sewn small things or clothes for me her whole life), plus the extra fabric and material for something more complicated will be more expensive and it may not be worth it.

Be weary of those websites where you can send them designs and they’ll design your dress. Totally false advertising.

On the plus side, I have a beautiful mock-up to dream about. Hmph.

I had my original dress custom designed and its exquisite.  I wore it once, and it’s been in a box ever since.

It probably would help me choose one. I like bits and pieces of each dress.
