So, I haven’t been to very many weddings before and being 8 days away from the big day I keep thinking of these little things I need to know!
Like, do you wear your engagement ring during the ceremony, or do you go ringless and the put your engagement ring on AFTER the ceremony?
Are there rules to these things? Traditions, or is it just a prefrence thing.

I wore mine on my right hand since the wedding band traditionally goes closer to the body than the engagement ring. I moved it over after the exchange of the rings when we were signing the license.

I’ll be wearing mine on my right hand and moving it over after the ceremony. I don’t know if there’s a tradition or anything, though.

I wore mine on my right hand as well… then next day combined them on my left 🙂

I wore mine on my left hand. It doesn’t fit on my right. After the cermeony before photos, we put them in the correct order.

I did the same as the previous posters – it was advice I’d gotten from someone else who’d gotten married. That way I’ll never take off the wedding band from the day my husband first put it on my finger.

Okay, thanks! I appreciate the advice. I shall wear it on my right hand!

I also wore mine on my right hand and switched it back to my left after the ceremony. When my sister got married, she didn’t wear her e-ring at all during the ceremony because it didn’t fit her right hand and she didn’t want to fumble with it during the ring exchange.

I wore it on my right hand. Switched it over during the pictures following the ceremony!
@Realeastcoaster That’s so sweet. Wouldn’t work for me though because I’ve already taken off my ring at least 30 times since we got married less than 2 months ago. I take both off now for cleaning (chemicals), when we went snorkeling on our honeymoon (just in case!) and for other things I can’t think of. But that’s so sweet! I love it!

Yep! Traditionally, you wear it on your right hand & then transfer it to your left after you have your new wedding band on! 🙂

I had my grandmother’s engagement on my right hand as my something old. So my Maid/Matron of Honor actually wore my engagement ring on HER right hand (she’s married already) during the ceremony. When we were back in the limo she couldn’t give it back to me fast enough. She was afraid she was going to lose it : )

same as the others, wore it on my right hand during the ceremony and then switched it after.
Remember to tell you fiance this though, otherwise he may put your band on your right hand!

Typically the engagement ring is worn on the right hand, then transferred to the left after the ceremony. However, we will be incorporating a quick two-sentence exchange during the ceremony, directly following the placement of the wedding band. Something to the effect of, “And to acknowledge the significance of the original promise between you and protect the new vow of marriage, please place the engagement ring on her finger”.

Just FYI another option I’ve seen done is to just have the best man hold both rings and have the groom put them on together.

I’ve heard that some people get their rings soddered together before the ceremony.
For me, wearing my ring on my right hand isn’t an option, as my right ring finger is a different size!
