I am thinking about hiring a DOC for my wedding, but I’m not sure if it is really worth the money or not. I’ve been getting prices ranging from $670 to $1300.
Did you hire one and was it worth the money? or did you hire one but felt you would have been fine without one?

@shopaholic85: I dind’t hire one for my first wedding and regretted it. For my second wedding we hired a friend to serve as the DOC. If you can afford it and your venues do not offer any assistance on the day of the wedding, then it’s a good idea.

We had a woman that was just starting her own wedding planning business and her price was insane (practically free). She ended up being totally useless so I’m glad we spent virtually no money on her.

Someone gave me this advice:
Think of the most Type-A friend that you have. The one who everyone gossips about how has to micromanage everyone. The one who everyone is a little bit afraid of. The one who rubs people the wrong way sometimes and is just a little too direct and aggressive. Ask that person to be your day-of coordinator.
Mine is one of my bridesmaids and in her letter asking her to be my bridesmaid, I put: Lauren, you’ve always been my ring leader: my type-A bossy pants bitch who gets shit done. I can’t imagine a better person to prevent me from committing mass homocide on my wedding day. I need you to ensure I’m drinking enough wine and to keep my mother away from me. Will you be my bridesmaid?
We aren’t very sentimental. Haha.

My wedding was last weekend. Our coordinator does it part time so she was fairlly inexpensive (around $500 I believe). I would have easily spent double that for the support she gave us, I don’t regret it in the least.

Our resort had a DOC included in the price we paid. I couldn’t imagine not having her. She took care of so much for us. Little things I had completely forgotten. She really made sure the day was perfect.

Our came with the site and it was sooooo worth it. She was amazing. She helped with all the vendor set ups, and setting up of the reception, she took control and made my life as a bride cake on the day of the wedding.

@shopaholic85: we had a DOC included in our wedding package that helped keep things running smoothly at the reception.
I also ended up hiring a family friend for about $250 to also serve as a DOC. She went between my place/DH’s to deliver bouquets, bouts, corsages for grandparents, held onto my final payments that were due to some of the vendors and made sure they were distributed, came to the rehearsal to make sure the bridal party knew what they were supposed to be doing, helped seat people during ceremony and round up family for photos etc…. all little details that just made the whole day that much less stressful because she was handling it for me.
If her price was double ($500) I still would have paid because she was very helpful… but probably not much more than that (for my personal budget).

We paid $1000 for our DOC and it was some of the best money spent at the wedding. She kept everything on time and we didn’t have to worry about forgetting anything! The day just went so smooth. 🙂 If you’re able to afford it I would say go for it.

@shopaholic85: I am completely and totally serious when I say this: My DOC has been, without a doubt, the BEST money we have spent on the wedding thus far.
Our package with her started a month before the wedding, and she has attended every final vendor meeting, taking notes (I haven’t even had to open my notebook), she has put together detailed and accurate timelines and schedules, she has made ALL of my confirmation calls – she has even attended my dress fittings. Not to mention the million emails she has answered for me – she gave me full step by step instructions on how to change my name (with the hours and address of my local Social Security Office and DMV, along witht the appropriate forms), she called the bakery for me to get a quote on some extra pastries – she even went and taste tested them for me to get the best ones! Her excellence cannot be overstated.
On the day of my wedding, I have complete and total faith that she will handle EVERYthing that needs handling, and on the one and only day I get to be The Bride – that will make her worth every single penny, and then some.
That said – make sure you get a good one. A bad DOC is worse than no DOC. I just feel really lucky that mine is as awesome as she is.

Both our ceremony and reception sites had their own DOCs included! They were super nice to have, but for a 42 person wedding, not necessary.

We haven’t even officially hired ours yet, but just knowing that we plan to is already making me stress less.
We’re having a friend officiate, not at a church so there is no “church lady” to run things, we’re doing a lot of DIY so there aren’t a ton of vendors like a florist to be in charge of stuff. Basically there is no one in charge of my wedding. I’ll be busy, the friends I would trust to do that are BMs and will be busy, and I didn’t want to burden anyone I know with all that responsibility. Little things like who tells us when to leave the bridal suite and line up to walk down the aisle? Who makes sure the centerpieces are in the right spot? Who runs the rehersal?
The one we’re considering is $650 and it’s well worth it to take care of all that stuff so I can sit pretty on my wedding day and not worry.

Yes, yes, yes. So worth it. There were so many little things that I hadn’t anticipated going wrong and she was on top of all of them.

@MrsBot: ALL OF THIS
we found one for under $500, they exist and its TOTALLY WORTH IT
