I’ll prefix this with: I have made a doctors appointment for next week, I’d just like other’s experiences if anybody else has been through similar.
I have been on Cerelle (mini pill with active ingredient desogestrel) for several years now. I can’t actually remember when I first went on it so I’m guessing at 3+ years. I’ve been taking oral birth control for over 10 years, moving from combined pill to combined pill until we eventually opted for the mini pill. Essentially my periods were hurting like a bitch, and on each pill they’d be great for several months then the pain would get progressively worse with each period until we switched and started the cycle again. The idea behind the mini pill was to stop the periods entirely, and it worked until recently.
The last 3-4 months I’ve been bleeding. I’d say slightly more than spotting but quite what I’d call a period. It seemed to be every 3-4 weeks. Don’t forget the PMS that I don’t recognise until the minor cramps kick in (uncomfortable rather than painful). Now my “period” seems to be almost every other week. Here’s the Too Much Information bit – the blood is almost black and very clotted. The darkness has been gradually increasing as well as the number of clots and volume of blood over the past month. It’s also very uncomfortable (borderline painful) to insert even a tiny tampon but I don’t want to use pads.
The only thing I can think of that’s really changed is I’ve lost weight (2+ stone) and I’ve never been this slim on this pill. My stress levels have increased recently but they’ve been a hell of a lot higher on the same pill with no issues.
I’m not ready to TTC (think 2-4 years off) and tbh I like being pain free/blood free and not having to worry about it.
Has anybody else been through something like this? Am I right in thinking my body wants a break thanks, and to suck it up BC free (woohoo condoms) for a few months whilst it sorts itself out? I think I’ve exhausted the oral BC options and I am not getting the injection so if I get offered an IUD, should I consider it?
