We split it up, spending the first 6 days resting and relaxing at the seaside and the next 9 days being busy exploring.  We were so exhausted when we got there, I was so glad to have that down time built in at the front of the trip, it was perfect.

I could totally sit on a beach for a week and do nothing but read and relax, but my fiance needs a little more adventure. We love hiking and debated some pure adventure honeymoons, but weather is an issue for us (we’re honeymooning in March). In the end we decided on Charleston, which is a little of both: a quaint city that we can stroll around in, drink wine and eat good food, but we can also book a cycling tour and kayaks. And there’s a dolphin/sunset cocktail cruise! (Okay that one might not count as “adventure”).

Edit: we also only have 5 full days after the wedding on which we can honeymoon, so that contributed to us wanting to stay close.

We’re mixing both romance and adventure in Belize. We aren’t beach people, so we chose the Blancaneaux Lodge in the rainforest. Every other day we have fun activities planned like night hikes to look for Jaguars, Mayan ruin expeditions, cave rafting, and zip lining. We’ll lounge around the river, waterfalls, pools, garden, gorgeous grounds and in our honeymoon cabana 😉 the rest of the time. There’s also great food and wine at this resort. And it’s owned by Francis Ford Coppola so it looks straight out of a movie. It was the perfect fit for us.

trinibride0417 :  We are having an adventure honeymoon I suppose, but I think it will also be romantic!  We are spending 9 days in Jordan exploring the sites.  We will be at the beach (Gulf of Aqaba and Dead Sea) for three of those days, but Fiance is not much of a beach person and we wanted to do something more once in a lifetime. I do love the Caribbean though, I go almost every year and it’s always a good time!

brittneyleigh :  We were in Belize last year and also split our time between the rainforest (San Ignacio) and the islands. We had a much better time inland doing those kinds of adventures. You’ll love it!

missinthecity :  This sounds amazing.

We’re doing an adventurous honeymoon to Italy! But we’ll definitely make time to relax as well.

I guess we did a little of both. We went to a small mountain town that is known for its hot springs. It was super relaxing. We also went to a small amusement park on top of a mountain. We took a long, scenic route home through the mountains.

We just got married on September 3rd and took a week staycatiion after the wedding since we live in a pretty nice tourist destination.  We spent one extra day at the hotel then we went home and spent our days doing nothing or going to the beach/movies/unusual shopping/ touristy tours/ resturaunts/shows/ theme parks etc.  We just decided that we are going to do an adventure honeymoon (calling it honeymoon 2.0) this coming January in Costa Rica.  Kyaking, whitewater rafting, zip-line, mountain biking, surfing, mountain climbing over 10 days.  I can’t wait.  I think if we took this Costa Rica trip right after the wedding we would need another vacation from it.

We are doing Banff, Canada and are doing a mix of both! We will be moonlight dog sledding, snowshoeing, snow tubing, taking sleigh rides, possibly do a helicopter tour, doing ice walks on glaciers. We also will relax some & maybe do afternoon tea at the Fairmont, and hang around our lodge since it’s in a gorgeous setting! So excited. I wouldn’t want to just sit on a beach for a week. But France sounds amazing!!

Lokie85 :  We were going to do Costa Rica for our honeymoon, but thought the same thing about it being so tiring! Lol. Where will you be staying?

trinibride0417 :  Wow those are two such different places!!! What about other spots in Europe that might be a little less expensive? For example Lisbon is amazing, in 2013 I went to Lisbon (Portugal)/Valencia (Spain)/Paris, Bologna (Italy) and liked Lisbon the most of those places. I had been to Paris before. Of course there are many amazing things about Paris but it is sooooooooo expensive and so crowded with tourists and the last time I was there it rained 4 days the whole time were there.. Europe is chock full of both romance and adventure, so I’d recommend thinking outside the Paris box for even more options. The reason I keep pushing Lisbon is everything costs 1/3 there as Paris and it’s gorgeous with so much to see and do. There are also several amazing castles to tour in Sintra which is a 1 hour something train ride away, so one can spend a day trip or a couple days in Sintra… then you could take a train to Porto which is quite romantic.

My honeymoon was both romantic and adventorous, we went to Thailand (with a short stop in Cambodia). We stayed in very nice hotels (5 star hotels arent’ nearly as expensive in Thailand), but the adventure was every day exploring. We did some amazing things including cave kayaking, swimming in caves, ziplining, bathing rescued elephants, and kind of the most adventoruos was just getting around the huge metroplois of Bangkok ourselves 🙂 We had 4 nights at a beach resort as well, so there was typical “romantic” in addition to our adventures. It was the best trip I ever took!

We’re doing some of both.  He has his heart set on Hawaii and I’m starting to realize that I can’t change his mind LOL.  (I wanted to go somewhere international).  I want to do a couple of days relaxing on the beach but I also want to do other things like go see a volcano, beautiful waterfalls, lots of sight-seeing, etc.  We’ve been together for 4 years and living together for 2.  We aren’t going to be the type that needs to “stay in the room all day everyday” on our honeymoon if you know what I mean lol

cate23 :  That looks beautiful, but we are going in November so have to stay on the sea side which is part of why we haven’t picked a beach yet. We will do two days in Bangkok when we get there and leave, but we didn’t want to stay in the bustle — just long enough to go to the temple and “see” the city.

brunette7285 :  We are still deciding.  There’s a few different ways to go about it.  A adventure travel agent…which seems to be the best deal.  or Go to a resort with all of these activiteis close by.  I like the adventure travel agent because they plan the whole trip like a tour and you are away from your original resort for 3 days and have other places to stay along the way.  For example on day 3 you go down river white water rafting, stay over night at a different place, then continue down river to the beach where you spend the day surfing…seems easier to enjoy everything to the fullest.
