Years ago, my dress was made out of Dutchess Silk Satin with a MASSIVE skirt.  Mom and my BM’s helped me move the skirt so I could sit on the stool under the dress.  I was stuck there, but my dress looked amazing.

We didn’t have a first look, but I was in my dress about 3 hours before my wedding for the rest of the day. Pictures took forever. I just sucked it up. Too much work. Plus – you only wear it once. 😉

msSLP:  can you move back the timing of the first look? We did first look and then group photos before running straight to the ceremony. it worked well.

I might change out of my dress for the downtime, but it’s very easy to get on and off. I’m just going to see how I feel about it on the day, and not make plans. My hotel is next door to my venue, so my bridesmaids and I are going to hamg out on the hotel room for the short break between photos and the ceremony.

We are having a first look, which is at noon- followed by ALL our pictures, wedding party and me and Fiance, and then our ceremony is at 5- we should be done pics and back at the location from pics around 4…415 im considering popping out of my dress and sitting in my robe so i can have a bit of a break … but im not completely sure depends on timing i guess, I hope it works out because noon-5 is a while and we are going to have a freshen up after pics right before the ceremony so i think it makes sense. I say if you have time might be worth it, especially if its very hot out that day

I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in a wedding and the bride did first look then went straight into bride & groom shots to fill that time before the ceremony.

msSLP:  I mean start it later, but if everything is in one place I see why you have to hide out from the guests. We did first look at the house and then drove off to the church (and guests were arriving when I got there so I had to sneak in the back…oops!)

If you’ve only got half an hour to kill I would stay in the dress. Honestly – you probably won’t want to take it off anyways! Plus how easy is it to get in/out of? Mine had 400 zillion satin buttons down the back which were quite the process so there was no way we were doing it more than once!

I would stay in it, especially if you can’t step into the dress. You run the risk of getting makeup smudges on the dress and ruining your hair. Plus 30 minutes really isn’t all that long. By the time you get it off, you’ll have to put it back on and I know that would make me feel a little flustered, especially if you’re already a little anxious about walking down the aisle. I’d kick off my shoes for 30mins but definitely stay in it.

I stayed in mine and there was probably a 1-2 hour gap. The thought of changing out of my dress honestly never even crossed my mind. We took bridal party photos after the first look and just hung out! It went by really fast so I never felt like there was really any downtime.

msSLP: I never sat down between our first look and the ceremony. Even though we’d built in plenty of time and I *thought* I would end up waiting, that’s not what happened at all.

However, if you do end up with spare time and your dress is easy to get into/out of, I guess you could take it off again while you wait.

msSLP:  I had a completely different wedding dress for my first look because I didn’t want my husband seeing the “real” dress until I was walking down the aisle. I had a simple Ralph Lauren lace dress for the first look we took a few photos and then I changed into THE wedding dress after he left for church. There was no sitting around for the thirty minutes because we were getting all of the final touches in and some photos with the bridesmaid and before we knew it, it was time for us to head to the church ourselves.

I stayed in my dress. I think you have a greater chance of getting lipstick or foundation on your dress if you change after the first look.

msSLP:  I took my heels off and stood around. I sat a bit, but my dress was duchesse satin, and it didn’t wrinkle easily. You could get one of those portable steamers and do touchups if you get a wrinkle. That’s what I did.
