@figgnewton:  I had one before I got pregnant and it hurt only a little bit but I also have a tilted uterus and she was having a hard time seeing my left ovary. It certainly isn’t unbearable but it did hurt a little bit. GL hope everything goes good!

It wasn’t really painful more so just a little uncomfortable.

Nope. I had one done about a year ago when I was having irregular/no monthly cycle. They were looking for polycystic (negative luckily). Anyways, I felt “full” if you get my drift but no pain. No, it does not go into your cervix. Vagina only.

Its uncomfortable but not painful.  7wks is very early for a belly ultrasound.

If you drink a TON of water or other liquids before your appt they may be able to do an abdominal ultrasound.  I had an abdominal one at my last visit (was only 7 weeks 1 day according to O) and they were able to do an abdominal beause my bladder was REALLY full.  We were able to see baby perfectly.

I find transvaginal US more comfortable than abdominal US because you don’t have a full bladder and then someone pressing on it!

You actually don’t have any pain fibres in your vagina so now it doesn’t hurt – you will only feel pressure. Less uncomfortable than a papsmear!

They also lube you up really well before hand – wear full underwear for afterward.

I was 6 weeks 5 days for my first US and they did it on my belly.

But anyway, if they do a TV, it shouldn’t be painful, and no they don’t go in the cervix.

Not at all! Just think of it like a trip to the gyno – you lay down and put your knees up and they insert the wand with a condom on it. It’s a long thin wand, it doesn’t hurt at all.

You feel some pressure especially when they move it over to the sides so they can look at your ovaries, but again it doesn’t hurt. It’s not very different from the feeling of intercourse, with a few exceptions. 🙂

@figgnewton – I didn’t think it was uncomfortable or hurt at all. A little ackward, but it didn’t hurt.

I wish that were the case when I had mine! I had to go to the ER for bleeding when I was 6 weeks along, they put in a catheter and completely filled up my bladder! It sucked,  I have never felt like I had to pee that bad in my life!

No… it is awkward but it shouldn’t hurt. Much less painful then a pelvic exam or a pap.

Nope, you should be fine. I had one almost every other day during an investigative cycle with my RE. Some nurses are a little more “gentle” than others but it’s not painful. A little awkward, yes, but it doesn’t hurt.

Good luck!
