When I bought mine I was worried about sizing and losing weight (as I assume you are from your other thread).  They told me they could take it in like 8 inches without a problem, but could only take it out an inch or so.  I think you’ll be fine.

probably depends on the dress but a seamstress can worm miracles.  Mine went from a wedding size 10 to street size 2.

I agree with @pinkshoes:.  I ordered a size 10 dress so it would fit me in the bust, but the seamstress had to take it in about nine inches in the waist and hips.  It still looks great!

@jackndiane:  Mine is a bit of a weird situation because I had it done three months ago for my bridal portraits and had it taken in six inches.  Then I tried it on again a couple weeks ago, and I discovered I had lost more weight.  So that’s how my dress lost its last three inches.  I’m having to pay for alterations twice.  :-

That being said, it only cost about $175 the first time around to have it brought in six inches at the waist and hips, to add the bustle, and to hem it up by an inch.

This post reminds me that when i have my dress Custom Made from a online site, i deliberately give my sizes one inch larger to make sure the dress will not come small. I would rather have it altered by a tailor if it comes 1 inch larger. So i guess 1 inch is easier for a tailor to take in?
