We actually met on an online dating site, and he took me back to the restaurant we met at and took me out on the balcony with out drinnks, overlooking the Mississippi River bridge and downtown Baton Rouge, and he was so unbelievably nervous. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him 🙂 It was meaningful, romantic, and perfect.
I did tell him though every time I go to that restaurant now I expect something awesome to happen!!!

Ours was definitely not anything special either!
I had driven down to help him pack for his move back to where I was living (very long story there). We went to dinner shortly after I got in town but it was rather uneventful. When we got back to his house, I went to let my dog out and when I walked back into the living room he was pacing around with a death grip on something. It took a second before I realized what was going on and sat on the couch waiting for the question. What ended up happening, however, was him rambling on about our relationship… I eventually just stopped him and said “just ask me!”. He then promptly asked me to marry him 🙂

Reading these makes me feel better about mine. I always thought it would be something fun, like in a hot air balloon or at a baseball game or something (I don’t know why??)
Anyway, here it is.
We had been dating for two years. But those past nine months I had been pregnant. We really never talked about getting married during the pregnancy because we were both so focused on having a baby. So it was two weeks after I had my son. He was holding my hand but I noticed he was touching my ring finger like he was feeling it up (nonchalantly)…but that gave me more excitement and butterflies than the actual proposal because nothing was said and he was trying to be really slick about it.
So a few days later it was mothers day (my first mothers day as a mom) and he worked. He gave me a card at night, when he got home and it read “You’re an amazing mother and a wonderful wife”. As I was looking at the card I said I’m not you’re wife?? but as I looked up, he was on one knee…and had a speech prepared telling me how important I was to him and how it would be such an honor to have me by his side for the rest of his life.
It was sweet…but not really unexpected since we had a child together. I think I would have liked it more if it was when I got pregnant rather than after we had our son.

Mine was special, but nothing crazy…
HIs parents have a camper in Niantic, CT. Fiance said he wanted to “make a day of it and go to the beach, eat some food, see his parents etc. I was laying on the couch that morning hungover from a Dave Matthews concert when Fiance asked me if I still wanted to go! Thank goodness I did!
We went to this neat bookstore, had a bite to eat, stopped at his parents, and then finally we went to teh beach at about 6:00. We walked down to the water and he kept trying to get me to get away from the water to sit with him, I wanted to look for shells haha! We sat down and then he stood me up and that is when I first thought that something was up. He hugged me and I could litterally feel his heart beating through his chest. He said…
“So, you know I love you so much and never want to be without you right?”
(Now my heart was pounding.)
“Well, I was wonderfing if you would be crazy enough to marry me.”
I was stunned! He got down on one knee and presented me with a box. I proceeded to drop to my knees and hug him. I finally looked down and saw an amazing ring. He then told me that the stone was my grandmothers and I began to cry which made him start to cry.
It was simple and completely perfect.

We were in NC with our closest friends renting a beach house. Months before he’d menionted he’d propose on this trip.
4’th day in I bring it up, he says he didn’t have the money to buy a fancy ring. I said tough shit, you said this was it, don’t fuck up again.
Few hours later he proposed with a beautiful (but not not good enough in his eyes) ring…1920s sapphire and diamond.
He got down on one knee…under water. Blurts out “will you marry me?”
Romantic? Not entirely. But it got the job done until he proposed over a romantic dinner back home 😀

Our story too is cute, but not over the top. I’m still happy all the same though 🙂

mine too! We were in Florida on vacation and we were alone at a really nice watering hole at a park (beautiful place). We are walking on the bridge and there were a bunch of malard ducks. He said some really sweet stuff about ducks mating forever and then asked if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. i told her of course. Then he got on one knee and asked “will you marry me?” 🙂 so so so sweet but nothing crazy or over the top. Just as I wanted it!

Oh, I heart this thread! I messed up his plan and he didn’t want to wait, so he dropped on one (or two?) knees in the hallway.

Mine was very simple as well but definitely characteristic of my fiance. We had been at the hospital all day awaiting the birth of my best friend’s baby girl. When we got home I went into the bathroom for a minute and when I came around the corner into the living room he was there on one knee. I didn’t believe it was real and so I just kept asking him “What are you DOING?!” He had to quiet me and I remember exactly what he said: “We’ve been through a lot together and you’re the woman I want to spend my life with. Will you marry me?” Short and sweet…I had to ask him if he was real because I didn’t believe it was really happening! He wanted to plan something big but he was so impatient that he proposed as soon as he had the ring in his hand. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

i love this too!!
Fiance proposed on like 8am on a Saturday in Ocobter. No special day. I was in my PJs, glasses and a puffy sleep bun. He put the ring by my coffee when I got up to brush my teeth. I was so shocked since I wasn’t expecting a proposal before I even had breakfast.
i loved it. wouldnt change a thing (except maybe having my contacts in lol).

Yes! We picked out the ring together and then he kept it to himself for WEEKS! I knew he had it, but he wanted to suprise me. Well, one night we went to Outback for dinner (lol) and then back to my house. We sat on my back porch and it was drizzling and he said close your eyes and pretend you’re at the beach, so I did. Then after awhile he said “Will you marry me?” and he put the open ring box on my stomach (I was laying down). No one else was around and it was very sweet and simple, and very us. 🙂

@crmaha12: I wished I had my contacts in too! I had just come home from a work party slightly tipsy and we were chatting about life in general whilst getting ready for bed. He then said “if I asked you would you marry me?” and I said “of course” the next thing I know the ring is in front of me but I couldn’t see it properly LOL!
He had been planning to propose on holiday in Thailand a few weeks later but like a lot of the other guys, he got the ring, got excited and couldn’t wait. Guys are so cute and funny!

I have to laugh looking back on it now.
We went to St. Louis for his birthday weekend and were staying at Union Station. We went to the room and had to hurry to get ready because we had reservations at Ruth’s Chris. Well he jumped in the shower, because he was working construction at the time and we had left as soon as he got off work, and I slipped on my super cute black lace dress and sat down looking at the city guide the hotel had. He got out of the shower, wrapped a towel around his waist, went to his bag, dropped down on one knee in front of me (!) and said “I can’t wait any longer. Will you marry me?”
He was planning on waiting until dinner, but honestly this was so much more him.

he proposed to me when we were lying in bed.
which has special significance for us personally (and how I wanted him to propose), but it’s not crazy romantic or anything.

Well…my Fiance took me for an over-the-top Michelin dinner which was nice, although I consider it a pretty common type proposal- after dinner, he came over to my side of the table, got on one knee and proposed. 🙂
It was sweet and wonderful and I feel incredibly grateful to have found such a great love. 🙂
But I have definitely heard more creative and elaborate proposal stories! My Fiance doesn’t have a big imagination, but I don’t mind!!!
