@vmec:Ha, I totally have buttons and a zipper. I don’t care, I think my dress looks lovely. I seriously doubt anyone seeing me in my dress, is going to think to themselves, “Oh, how tacky, buttons AND a zipper.” I think they’re going to be thinking, “Damn, she looks gooooood!”
For those who haven’t seen the back of my dress:
My point: if you look and feel good in your dress, it doesn’t really matter what kind of closure the dress has. You’re going to look good in it.

I’m not a big fan of external corsets. I don’t say not to wear them, but they didn’t do a lot for me. I wanted bridal buttons and that’s what I’m having.
To the girls who say they want it for the shape, I’m wearing a serious tight-lacing corset underneath and will have a FABULOUS shape.

The Pronovias and San Patrick dresses I tried on also came with an internal corset for those who like the shape but not the look of corset-back.

@UpstateCait: You look TINY!!!!! I definitely agree that corsets are amazing for that very reason. Plus skipping alterations is awesome 🙂
I wish my dress had a inside corest (I think I’ve heard some have them, but never actually saw one). Would love to have that tiny, tiny waist. Oh well!

I love my corset back dress, it does an amazing job of accentuating my waist and gives me great supprt. Plus I love that it’s not a big deal if I gain or lose a bit of weight leading up to the wedding. I certainly don’t think that makes my dress low end. Oh, and since when it Maggie Sottero low end? I wouldn’t call a dress over 1k cheap, and my seamstress herself said the lace and tulle used in it are extremely high quality.

I have always liked corset backs and my Darling Husband told me before we got married that he really liked them on wedding dresses. So while I didn’t purposely pick a gown with one, I was happy that the dress I fell in love with had one because I knew he would like it.

So I must apologize for any misunderstanding my original post may have caused. I am NOT trying to bash the brides that have corset backs on their dresses nor do I consider dresses with corset backs to be lower end or cheaper dresses. I agree I could have phrased my OP much differently. I am sorry to offend anyone.
I think the dresses that are designed to have a corset back are pretty but I have also seen many dresses converted into corset backs and they sometimes seem to lose something in the conversion. I have had many friends who changed their dresses to corset backs and some very pretty details were taken out.
It also seems to me in my dress search that there are SO MANY dresses with corset backs and I miss seeing the classic zipper/button dresses. It reminds me of all the strapless dresses out there. For a long time, that’s all you could find when searching. Not all people like strapless dresses. It’s just personal preference.
I guess the point I was attempting to make with my original post was with all the corset back dresses on the market, was I the only one who didn’t like the look of them, and were there any other brides that chose to have a zippered dress?
