We just started planning the wedding, and we figured the first thing we need to decide is the venue, so we can confirm a date. I’ve posted a couple other times about this one place I had in mind. It’s an old opera theater that holds reception and things. My brother and SIL had their wedding and reception there too. It is a small town, so there’s not TOO many places to choose from, and this place was the cheapest, I’ve been to a reception there, and Fiance and I live out of state now, and we are familiar enough with that place to choose it without having to go back to look at it. If you read my previous post, I have issues with the dance floor, which is the stage, because it’s a little awkward. I have the lease ready to sign, but now I am changing my mind.
We still have a year and a half, and I know if I pick something now, I WILL want to change my mind (I know myself). Should I keep looking at places, or settle with this place I have been to and is cheap (budget is a big factor with everything; we’re trying to keep it under $5000, which in the town the most expensive venue I have found is under $1300 so it won’t be that hard). Has anyone chosen a venue and later regretted it?

I haven’t chose a venue yet, per se, but I have been going back and forth over church wedding vs. some other location for wedding+reception. Being your wedding is quite a ways off like mine, why not wait til around July of *this* year to look at locations, determine if the weather is acceptable for any outdoor venues, etc? That way if you find a venue that feels right for July, you could probably make plans to book it in advance (unless you believe you’ll change your mind frequently). Lots of luck, I’m still trying to find venue ideas on a budget too!

Yes, I had major venue regret.
I found a venue that I LOVED, bed & breakfast. It was $2,000 to rent. I didn’t realize when I booked them that they REQUIRED you take their catering. Their catering is AWFUL. They offered horrible entrees, like hamburgers and bratwurst, and their meals started at $40 a person. Now, I live in a small area, where weddings are cheap, this is an INSANE amount. They told me they would “work with me” to create a menu that I liked. I decided on chicken marinara, soup, salad & buns. They wanted almost $70 a PLATE. [Over $4000 for 60 people!]
I told them to keep my deposit and ran away.
I have since found a venue that costs me $350 to rent, from 8 am to midnight [plus cleanup time afterwards]. I can decorate the day before for an extra $75. I can bring my own catering, [Fazolis will cost us around $800], and the venue is very rustic, which is super cute!
