I just bought a Dodge Journey tonight–yay! My car’s AC finally died (after many months of squeaking like a dozen mice) and I bit the bullet.
I love it so far, but have never had a Dodge. I’d love some input!

I think everyone has that one car brand that they just flat out refuse to buy. Mine happens to be Dodge.
My first car was a Dodge and it was more of a headache than anything else. I drove it till it eventually died (I got a few years out of it) but it was a constant money pit and I put far more into it than it was worth.
Fiance got a Dodge during the first few years of our relationship and the floor rusted out so bad that we could literally see the ground from our seats. We would sit at a red light and parts of the undercarriage would fall off! The engine eventually seized up and we just opted to buy new after that.
Future Brother-In-Law has a Dodge truck and recently went to hell and back to get it fixed. He brought it to the only Dodge dealership we have in the area and they couldnt diagnose the problem. After thousands of dollars and literally MONTHS of the truck being out of commission they finally figured it out and fixed it but the amount of stress it added to his family (i.e. pregnant wife) was pretty insane.
I could go through about half a dozen other people I know with Dodge issues but I think you get the point.
While I may dislike them I’m sure there are boat loads of people out there with great Dodge experiences. I can’t tell you how many people told us Hyundai horror stories after we bought our car but you know what, it’s been pretty damn near perfect *knock on wood*.
Congrats on your purchase! New cars are always fun!

@UpstateCait: Oh nooooo! Thank goodness for warranties! I’m a crazy careful driver though, so hopefully I’ll be okay for a while. I love the power of the engine… blows my Mitsubishi Montero to pieces!

I loved my Intrepid – most durable car I’ve ever owned. That thing was a TANK! Hubbs is saving up for a charger right now. I would def. get one again if given the chance.

My mom has a Dodge Journey (2010) and she loves it. No problems so far. They even gave her free mats when the “Dodge” started to come off one of them.
My parents exclusively drive Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep and all have been great cars.

@UpstateCait: I also had a Dodge that rusted really badly. You could kick it and sheets of metal would flake off. But it ran well.
I got a Hyundai as my next car and it has only been a year, but it’s great. I love the free XM (not sure if all Hyundai’s have this but mine does!)

@kerensa: Ours did for like the first year. We were able to renew for dirt cheap for a while but then they bumped it up so we canceled. Our Hyundai has been great and we’ll be done paying on it early next year. Almost no issues that weren’t covered under warranty and even then, those were few and far between.
@MrsLongcoatPeacoat: For full disclosure, each one was used. FI’s and my car could have just been age although FBIL’s is fairly new but still had problems. As long as you have a warranty (which he does not) you’re totally fine.

My best friend has an 07 Dodge Caliber, and its needed more work done to it than my 95 Acura!! Its a crap box.
I have heard good things about old Intrepids, as some PPs have said. Not sure why they aren’t better now than they were then.
Good luck with it! And hopefully, you don’t drive a lot so you can keep the warranty longer

I drive a 2000 Dodge Stratus. It was my grandpa’s and I got it after he passed away so it is very special to me. It has been a great car. Of course I’ve had a few minor problems, especially now that it’s getting older and I’ve driven it across the country (as well as many other trips). Fortunately, I haven’t had any major problems. I’ve had to spend money on tires and brakes, but you have to do that with all cars.

I drive a Charger and I LOVE it! I’ll probably sell it in a year or so, but only because it doesn’t have the towing capacity I want. It runs great though and it’s fun to drive!

@MrsLongcoatPeacoat: I loooooove my Dodge Durango. I got the luxury edition so it’s big and beefy on the outside and comfortable on the inside.
I have gone through Mitsusbishi (x2 and both AWFUL), Chevy (x2), Nissan, and Ford and I can honestly say without a doubt I have had no problems with the Dodge versus constant problems with all of the previously mentioned.
I guess like rings, cars are to each their own. A lot of people are severely loyal to one maker. My Fiance hates everyhing but Infiniti’s which he just bought a new one, so there is war even in our household. 😉
