bellabee16 :  Thank you! Its much lighter than traditional sapphires and kind of changes color in different lighting.

saccarabird :  your ring is gorgeous! I love it. I think once you get your wedding band, like others have said, it will be more obvious.

I have a blue blue sapphire ring I got for my anniversary and wear it on my engagement ring finger and I showed it to my grandma and she said people will think I am not married because it’s not a diamond. But I love sapphires more than diamonds and I think colored gemstones are becoming more common as engagement rings, which is awesome because they are more rare than diamonds. Here is my ring.

saccarabird : Girl I could have wrote this same exact post! My ring is also a sapphire, and I knew when we were shopping together my ring wouldn’t be a diamond. I figured a sapphire ring might cause a little confusion. But holy crap! The looks I get when I say I’m engaged. They act like I’m wearing a twist tie ring sometimes! And some jerks act like I’m faking being engaged yell

My immediate friends and family have all said my ring is very fitting and it matches my personality though, so that’s good.

I also look look like I’m about 16, so it doesn’t help haha.

Your ring is super elvish looking though, I love it!

I see a ring on a left hand ring finger and I assume engaged/married πŸ™‚

I have what I think is obviously an engagement ring (emerald cut moissanite in a halo), but people often ask if my ring is an engagement ring, so I think it’s just a politeness thing for some circles.

I think your ring is very unique and gorgeous, and I would definitely assume it’s an engagement ring!

my ring is sterling silver, no stone. we found a woman at the portland saturday market who makes rings by casting natural materials. it’s a seed pod. almost no one gets that it’s an engagement ring (though i’ve had people ask about the lovely lily i’m wearing), and i don’t mind. i know what it means.

Neither of my rings are exactly typical. My e-ring is the gold one.

I have a sapphire and platinum ring too. After waiting a month (which seemed like an eternity, but in reality isn’t that long at all), it finally arrived last week, and I have already had to field several awkwardly phrased questions as to whether it is in fact an engagement ring or not.

People are so strange!  Regardless of what sort of ring it is, I’d always assume a woman is engaged or married if she’s wearing a ring on that finger! But I’d definitely think your ring is engagement ring, and what a beautiful ring it really is!! But yeah people can be very strange, I’ll never understand them!

@saccarabird: I would definitely assume it was an engagement ring, especially on that finger. It’s beautiful!

I have the same situation! No one realises I’m engaged. There hasn’t been a single person who has recognised my new life change without me prompting them. However, I’m more of a private person, so I’m ok with this πŸ™‚ here’s my beloved ring. He couldnt have done better… πŸ™‚

I’ve had a few strangers ask me if it is an engagement ring. Normally a compliment follows, anything from “that’s so pretty” to “that is so cool, is it a ruby and not a diamond?”  The only people who were sort of odd about it is my ILs. They’re very traditional and materialistic (which they openly discuss their issue with materialism), and they assume that my husband must have just done a terrible job picking out the ring, or been cheap. They simply can’t understand why I’d want a ruby. But I suppose I’m lucky that most comments have been so positive. I’m sorry you’re feeling a bit down about your ring; it’s absolutely stunning!

I think my ring is very clearly an an engagement ring. But many people have not been shy about letting me know that it doesn’t look like one to them because it’s not a diamond
