I have a Braun silk epil, and it hurts like a mother!

I use it to do my hedges (for want of a better expression), and I find that after a while, once all the endorphins start to flow, it doesn’t hurt as much. However, there’s no way you’d want to use an epilator to do a brazilian-equivalent amount of hair removal.

You have to do multiple passes, and hold the skin really really taut. I think part of the reason it hurts is because you feel every. single. hair. being plucked, unlike waxing where it just sort of happens in one go and then it’s over.

Also, they are noisy! Kind of like a wood-chipper. The first time I switched it on, I think my gut reaction was, “Oh hell no”. It lasts for about as long as waxing, and you don’t need re-growth as long as for a wax. I think too, if you’re doing a bit of edge tidying etc, it’s faster than waxing yourself, and also not as messy.

I had one when I was in college. I used it only a handful times, because even on my legs it was too painful. In comparison, I can even fall asleep while my legs are being waxed, that sensation doesn’t bother me at all. Unless technology improved drastically in the last 15 years and they made them less painful, I’d never bring an eiplator even close to my pubic area. If you have a higher theshold for pain, I’d recommend laser hair removal as an alternative. I have friends who swear by this. At least it’s permanent and pays for itself in the long run.

haha i bought an epilator and then got way too intimated by it to use it. brazilian waxes don’t bother me at all…i just can’t afford them anymore. the pp’s don’t make me want to try it though…
