So my Fiance and I looked at some wedding video samples from different videographers in the DC area where we live, and they really didn’t seem all that special so we decided not to hire one. Seriously, all of them we saw were like, slow-mo with tacky songs in the background… we thought we’d just ask one of our friends or family members to take videos of our important moments (like taking the vows, the first dance, etc). So crossed off the videographer and instead, we hired an awesome photographer and are splurging on our wedding pictures.
Then I saw one of the posts from Miss Oyster’s blog last week, where she included this AMAZING wedding video done by StillMotion (a Canadian photo/cinemagraphy group). I’ve never seen such a beautiful wedding video ever in my life and literally ended up pulling an all-nighter going through every single video they have on their Vimeo site.
Now I really, REALLY want a videographer, but no one in the DC area seem to have similar style. StillMotion is crazy expensive for our budget (the starting investment cost of U.S. weddings start at $11,900 CAD, which is still like $11,860 USD. It’s travel feel inclusive). I’m SO obsessed with thier videos and wish I won a lottery so I can hire them, but the reality is harsh.
Does anybody know a videographer with similar style of shooting? I imagine U.S.-based videographers would be more affordable to hire, even with the travel costs… thanks in advance for your inputs!

It may be worth checking out Well Spun Wedding Films. They are based out of Philly but also do weddings all over the country. We are using them, and I reserached about 50 videographers before choosing them. I have no idea how much you want to spend, but they may be worth checking out! 🙂 Feel freeo to message me if you have more specific questions. Good luck!

Ah videography. I jumped the same hoops too, and decided on videography and Joe Simon Films (he was a pro poster here, did Ms. Kitten’s wedding [she also considered StillMotion] and recently had some amazing coverage including on Style Me Pretty). He’s INCREDIBLE, based in Austin, TX, and about half the price of StillMotion for a short film (6-8 minutes). Downside: he’s booked through 2010. The best videographers go fast, just like good photogs 🙁
Others to consider if still available who are awesome and US Based are Living Cinema (who were my second choice) and Elysium Productions, who both shoot in similiar styles. Good luck!

One of my best frends was married 2 months ago and they hired a wedding videography studio called Perfect Shutter. They’re also in Ontario, I think based out of Windsor Ontario, but on their website it also says their packages start at $1900 which is a LOT less than Still Motion’s.
Even if you include travel expenses, it’d probably come up to much less than the $11000.
When we finally saw the highlight video they produced, it really was amazing. I’ve watched it at least 5 times myself, and it wasn’t even my wedding! Her facebook wall was completely filled with really great comments from all her friends and family.
Here’s her video
You can see some of the similarities to the Still Motion videos, and I loved the fact that it seemed to tell the story of my friend’s wedding without being tacky!

We also didn’t really want videography, but Fiance parent’s insisted. Then we found http://www.cineventpro.com/ (we live in so cal…but they would probably travel). The have a similar feel.
