We just won a vespa scooter and I love it! It’s the S 150 I.E.- it’s great on gas mileage of course  70-75 mpg, but I don’t get to drive it as much here in FL.

My friend’s father had gotten her two- one for her and one for her roommate (included in the rent of the condo). She didn’t have a roommate for a while- so we drove them all over town in Gainesville. Not sure what kind of Vespa her’s were but there were great to drive and it seemed like forever between fill-ups.

My mom has a Buddy and she absolutely loves it. She’s pretty petite and it fits her perfectly.

Last year I bought a Vespa Granturismo (200 CC), it’s pearl white with a snakeskin trim seat and it’s *so* pretty. I ride it every day to work and I love it, even now the weather is cooling down (in Oz) and I have to wear a balaclava under the helmet 🙂 I guess I am lucky in that Darling Husband is very much into bikes so kept his eye on the “for sale” websites in our city and was able to test ride it for me and then ride it home after I bought it (at that time I’d only had my license for a day). If there is a scooter specialist in your area I would pay them a visit and have a chat – best way to get an idea of what you want. For me I wanted something not massive (DH was wanting me to get a 300CC even though I am 5 foot 1 and weigh less than 120 lb), but that would keep up with traffic so 200 is perfect. Plus, it had to be pretty, otherwise what’s the point! The scooter shop in my area does “open days” when they get new stock in and you can go for test rides, there’s also a couple of groups who go for rides together on weekends. I couldn’t really afford a car and Darling Husband gets his through work so this is the perfect “second car” for us (especially considering Darling Husband can ride it too if he wants). It’s so cheap to run and park, and it’s environmentally friendly so I feel very virtuous as well 🙂 Good luck, I’d highly recommend it!

I think the vespas are easier to service, but i like the vintage look of the stella (by buddy) the best of all. Have you looked at the honda metropolitan or the yamaha vino? I was looking at buying one and those seemed easy to buy and more bang for your buck!

I’ve always entertained the idea of getting a Vespa(eventually), but don’t really know anything about them like the OP.

Is it hard to get insurance on them?

What about the cost (initial investment vs. gas/maintenance etc)?

Do you need a special license (i.e.: motorcycle license)?

Now I am randomly curious! Google hear I come!

I have a Honda Ruckus and it is literally the best thing that has ever happened to me!

My Fiance and I refer to them as “Urban Assault Vehicles.”

They have super gnarly tires, so you can take them off roading through trails, mud, gravel, etc.

THey get 101 Miles to the gallon.

In my opinion, they look way cooler than any other scooter. They are agressive but totally practical with their amazing gas mileage. they come in a lot of fun colors, and you can get them used at a pretty decent price.

I bought mine brand new and it was 2600 dollars.
