I really like these books: BetterPhoto Basics: The Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Taking Photos Like a Pro and Tony Northrup’s DSLR Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography (since you have a DSLR camera). Both are easy to understand and follow, and once you get through the books and understand the concepts, there are other books you can get afterwards, for more advanced level photography.

@Carmabelle:  As well as reading about photography I recommend going in for a class. Is there anyone in your area that takes you to cool places and teaches photography? I do this as one of my jobs at work and every single person I have taught was blown away with the lesson and they always say we have read books/our manual or gone to classes in a classroom but this was better!

@Carmabelle:  http://banffphotography.com/

Our best deal isn’t on the website though. It is a two hour tour of the hotel, with tips and tricks of how to get better photos of mountains, architecutre, flowers/snow, waterfalls, portraits. $150 for two people. You could even get it for Christmas and we would send you some sort of certificate you could print off and stick in his stocking!
