Yup, in my house, I put together bookcases, desks, tv stands, beds, etc. Yeah, you know, IKEA furniture with like 56 pages of instructions or 212 steps!
haha, yeah, we joke about it. He knows that its a waste of time for him to do it because he knows he will put it together wrong and then I will have to fix it.

Um… kinda. I’m definitely better at it than Fiance is because I grew up doing that kind of stuff and Fiance never had to do it (and had no interest in learning). But now he kind of sees that he needs to learn so we make a point to do things together.

When we first got all of our furniture it all came flat packed. I put together the couches, the coffee table, a lamp table, the dining room table & all the chairs, the tv unit… and the last thing was a big bookshelf. Anyway, it was bigger than I was so I decided to recruit the fella to help me with it. Big mistake! We had the only fight we’ve ever had in the whole 4 years (at that stage) that we’d been together!

I don’t read instructions but put everything together… because he is taking too much time to read the instructions. lol

I am always the one assembling things at work and at home. My boss thinks I am absolutely brilliant, but she hasn’t ever really seen the indents I accidently hit in the back of the bookcase with the mallet (IKEA SUCKS at lining up their holes)

YES! Darling Husband refuses to read directions for ANYTHING. It is SO annoying! I feel like I need to oversee/assist/take over ALL the assembly! But he also doesn’t read directions on recipe cards. He likes to throw everything in a pot at once on medium heat. And he wonders why I turned into a control freak?

I’ve always been the one to put furniture together at home because dad and brother think they know too much to follow instructions. I’ve gotten really good at putting them together now.

@MightySapphire: Yes, I know, the Darling Husband can’t read the directions on the box, either!!! He’s getting better… instead of looking at just the pictures (of the ingredients), he is now starting to read the text. I said, starting to because he’ll put things out of order. Like rice-a-roni, yeah that’s not something you can throw everything in at the same time.

@ttn133: HAHAHA, I totally understand! Darling Husband tried to make me mac n cheese, and he put the milk, mac, water, powder, and butter all in the pot, then put it on high to boil it. Seriously. I mean, I made mac n cheese from a box when I was 5. FIVE. He can’t make it after 30!

Lol, I’m more mechanical than my love. He looks at the pieces and is like “okay, this works” and puts it together incorrectly. However, he’s better in the kitchen than me so it works out.

I don’t read directions, he does. It’s a waste of time to me.LOL There also wasn’t any put together furniture by us furniture either.(Ikea) Only put together stuff was a bookshelf/comuter desk/foyer table. Wasn’t utting NOTHING together in this house.lol

Haha….Fiance is a chronic no-instruction-reader. So when it comes to putting stuff together, i’ll read the instructions and lay out all the nuts & bolts etc (like the giant nerd i am), and he’ll put it together as per my instructions 🙂
Otherwise he’ll complain i don’t tighten stuff enough….it works for us

@MsMamaBear: I was beginning to think I was the only one! Yay for not needing instructions! lol

We have a thirteen year old in the house and power tools, I will never have to put anything together again. He puts everything together and is methodical about instructions, just needs his dad to check it now and then.

My hubs reads the directiopns but always does it wrong anyway. Every. single. time. The most recent time, he managed to get wood glue all over our new sofa while he assembled our changing table. So now he’s on probation and he isn’t allowed to assemble anything unattended! lol
