Does anyone usually make plans for Martin Luther King Day weekend?

Less likely to attend (please give a reason in the comments, I'm just curious) : (5 votes)

I was the one who said my daughter had a 90% acceptance, for the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend (2013). My other daughter is getting married the Sunday of Labor Day weekend this year, and the acceptances will probably be the same %. Some people make excuses – for them an annual picnic trumps a wedding. P.S. If you’re in a area that gets a lot of snow/bad weather, it might effect it. We had record snowfalls in PA this winter.

I don’t think that most people even have that day off do they? I don’t, and most people I know don’t. Either way it’s not a holiday that you can count on everyone having off, it depends on their employer.

MrsTywinLannister:  Unless it’s standard in your area to have it off I wouldd’t worry. I think it’s probably a 50/50 shot on who has it off and people don’t seem to go out of town. There’s a big diff between that and federal holiday’s like mem day, Labor day, Christmas, 4th of July, etc…

ETA: Not to mention it’s January, not exactly vacation weather 😉

Most people I know don’t have MLK day off so I don’t think it will be an issue.

I’m Canadian so we don’t have MLK day, but we have other random long weekends so I’ll answer for that. No holiday other than Christmas would stop me from attending a wedding. The others just aren’t a big deal.

MrsTywinLannister:  My wedding was this past MLK weekend (1.18.14).  We had 100 out of 160 attend.  I was completely happy with that number, and I don’t think the declines were due to the date but rather to the distance guests had to travel (most NOs were from people in CA, CO, OH and the wedding was in FL).

Mine will be this weekend, 2017, in the northeast. Most guests are in this area.
