If they are hives (itchy ad slightly raised) then Benadryl will work. Be careful to not take too much if you do or you will find you get quite drowsy (most people do anyway). I would say find a non-drowsy formula and take a small dose…it wouldn’t hurt to try especially if you believe this to be a slight allergic reaction.

@jo.lee: hmm I am no expert – maybe call a dermatologist and ask if there is a remedy? You could try non-drowsy benadryl and I doubt it would hurt anything so it could be helpful! Or maybe try to take a shower?

I hope it works out for you. It might not be the lotion that caused it if you’ve been using it for a few weeks, but I am one of those people prone to having random (annoying!) allergic reactions. If it’s come on suddenly and it looks like a rash it can’t hurt to take benadryl. If I ever feel hives or a rash coming on I take it right away just to be careful. Even if it doesn’t work a small dose won’t hurt..it’s like taking tylenol if you think you’re getting a headache.

I hope it works out for you! I would try putting a cold wash cloth on it for a bit too…that might help any redness.

I think benedryl makes a cream too. I have never tried it though, so I cant say if it works or not. Good luck.

Benadryl does work but makes me sleepy. I’d get the external lotion and the child’s version if possible! Hope it works out.

I’ve had a dermatologist that the allergy creams aren’t very good because if you have sensitive skin, you’ll likely react to some of the nonactive ingredients.  Sure enough, once I stopped using it, my rash cleared up.

Benadryl will work, but if you don’t take it often, be prepared to pass out.  It doesn’t just make me sleepy; it makes my whole body shut down for several hours.

It should work 🙂 I had a reaction to getting my eyebrows waxed the Thursday before my Saturday wedding (never had a reaction before, I’m sure it was stress!). I took some children’s Benadryl Friday afternoon and the redness was faded enough that I could cover it with makeup for the 6pm rehearsal dinner. I took another dose Friday night right before bed and it was gone by Saturday morning.

be careful that you can’t take benedryl pills and creame at the same time.  I suggest giving the benedryl creme/gel a try first
