I know there are hundreds of threads about moissanite and I have been searching them all day but I can’t find a direct answer. Can you please tell me if the rainbow effect is the same for the F1 as it is for FB?
Also, do you think an oval shape would be more or less splintery and rainbowy than a round?
Well, the rainbow effect is separate than the cut (splintery) issue.
F1 and other 4H silicon carbide (like Amora Gem) are more diamond like in performance than classic or FBs and less rainbowy. I have diamonds, and some 4H stones, and honestly, when worn at the same time my diamonds often appear to put off more coloured fire than the 4H stones do. The 4H stones also put off more white fire than my old classic or FB moissanites did.
But, you will have to decide if you like the cut as regular round F1 cuts are still what some call “splintery” or more traditional moissanite cuts but have also improved a lot as well over the years so they really aren’t as flat always as most people seem to make out. You may want to look at Amora Gem for H&A, or if you are ordering from Moissanite Co inquire about their H&A 4H stones – I have some of these latter stones and the cut is great, higher crown and so on and not like classic round moissanite cuts at all.
I do think the F1 oval moissanite cuts are cut “splintery” but that is also part of it being a modern cut, whether moissanite or diamond. Any modern cut to me, whether H&A or oval, or whatever, is always to be more splintery…and this includes for diamonds.
If you want less rainbows, I think you are safe going with F1. If you definitely want a less traditional moissanite cut you are better looking at Amora Gem or getting an H&A 4H stone from MoissaniteCo. You can also look with Amora Gem at waiting for an OEC or AVC, or seeing if there are new “old cuts” from other 4H manufacturers in time…there are some rather reliable reports these are coming in time.
I have a round Forever One and I tend to notice in most lighting it has more white sparkle/flashes then rainbows. I see more rainbows in direct lighting but they are mixed in with white flashes as well.
If I go to a store with bright flourecent lighting I see a very cool color effect but they are more pastel than bright typical rainbow colors if that makes sense.
I have a forever one oval and I don’t see the crazy rainbow flashes unless I’m under dim overhead lighting… Like at church when they turn the lights down or the movie theater during previews. Sorry I don’t know how to explain it, obviously lol. Most of the time it is sparkly white. The cut is kind of splintery I guess, but when I was looking at oval diamonds, the cuts we all over the place. Some were more splintery and some looked more like crushed ice.
Thanks for the replies so far. I like moissanite but I dont like all of the colors being so prominent. Especially the pastel colors. I think it would be fine if my office lighting wasnt the kind that produced those rainbow colors, but it does, so that is what i see all day. I love the white flashes and the glow (like when I go to the bathroom or am in my car) I just dont like the pinks and greens and blues because they are so abundant in my office lighting that it takes over the whole gemstone. It almost reminds me of a mystic topaz and that is what I dont want the F1 to have.
I am absolutely in with love my F1, but I am a fan of rainbow sparkle and splintery facets. It also does reflect pastels like you mentioned, so it may not be a good suit for your taste. 💕 Forever one is as white as white can be, but IS reflective. To me it makes it a little more visually interesting because while I’m color (yellow) sensitive, icy stones without fire don’t do it for me either.
Ive seen mystic topaz (which is firey as all get out) and F1 isn’t nearly as colorful and reflective as that. I wouldn’t even compare the two. I agree about color taking over the stone’s entirety, which I haven’t seen in mine, luckily! Just little teeny sparks. 😊
ETA: I do think it’s as splintery as a FB, but not as firey, even though it’s advertised to be. I have an oval F1 and I’ll include pics so you can see what you think. 😊
Sorry! For some reason Weddingbee won’t let me reply to you in message. 😕
Hmmmm do you think it’s comparable to grocery store? Or less bright? I know the bulbs you’re talking about, so I’ll be looking for them. I’d be interested to see my ring in that lighting too, ’cause I’ve never seen it look plasticky or mystic topazy. Fingers crossed!! 😄
