This might seem stupid but does it mean labour is closer if baby is in position? I’m 31+1 and baby is head down, lying to my left side and facing towards my back so perfect position for birth. I assumed I would go over due as it’s my first and my mum was over due with both her children but does the fact it’s already in position means anything? or is it just one of those things and next week it could have moved out of position and be two weeks over due.

Babies often get into position a few weeks before birth. Depending on their size they may also flip around one or two more times, too- though your baby is likely too large for that at this point.
It sounds like your baby is in there doing her thing and preparing to head toward labor but it doesn’t necessarily mean that labor and birth are imminent.
ETA- Has your belly dropped yet? That’s usually a significant indicator that the baby has dropped into position, head into the cradle of your pelvis, and is preparing for labor and delivery.

Itsnotme : Unfortunately, no. Doesn’t mean anything. My baby has been in position (LOA like yours) since my 20 week ultrasound, and I’m still pregnant at 41 weeks. Hopefully your LO stays that way for the next few weeks (the “safe zone” for positioning is around 34 weeks I think) so you won’t have to worry about a breech situation!

Doesn’t really mean anything unfortunately.

My baby was pretty much always in position…but she still got stuck on her way out!

Nope, being head down at 31 weeks doesn’t mean anything but baby should hopefully stay head down, which is what you want.

32 weeks and my baby is still breech. My OB says it’s at about the 35 week mark that they start taking the position ‘seriously’. But it’s still a good sign your baby is ‘cooperating’ 🙂

TwilightRarity : belly is very low in general as I have a long torso and it’s sitting down low so I don’t think I’d notice if it dropped!
ruby26 : oh no any sign of yours coming out yet? From the start I’ve assumed at least a week late so i was quite surprised that it was all ready in position. At my 21 week scan it was head up and wedged in my pelvis but by 23 weeks it had gone up flipped around and was head down which is how it has stayed. Hopefully it won’t move but it’s only 27th percentile at the moment and I’m 5’10 so I have a lot of torso it can move around in!
snowflake8 : good to know hopefully it stays still until 35 weeks then! i hope yours flips itself! At just before 23 weeks mine was wedged deeply in my pelvis and it was getting very uncomfortable so I went on to spinning babies website and did some of their exercises for turning a breech baby (not that it counts as breech at that point obviously it was just getting painful being internally kicked in the crotch) and I felt it lift up and turn over after about two days of doing them. Might be worth looking at and giving them a go if you haven’t tried it!

My baby was in position for weeks and I went 5 days over my due date. Good luck! 🙂

Doesn’t mean anything – baby can switch positions any time

My baby was in position for a couple months before the due date and he was 10 days late.
