Does luxury mascara make a difference versus the drug store kind?

I like some mid and higher end mascaras (Tarte’s light camera lashes is one of my favorites), but I really like using a dark brown mascara instead of black which limits me a little bit.  I haven’t loved any of the Benefit mascaras.  So far my favorite is probably L’Oreal Lash Paradise

I vote yes but like all high end products there are stand outs. I used to swear by diorshow but they changed the formula, now I use they’re real. I tried better than sex after reading many raves and hated it. I still do not understand why that pink and green mabelline mascara gets recommended, it is gar-bage (my guess is it’s super black so looks great for 90 seconds to take a pic but it smudges like crazy if you’re just a normal)

Same experience as PP, I went back to drugstore thinking I could save some dough and hated the formula and wound up with flakes all over my cheeks. I’ve been using Clinique High Impact for years now and really like it. Stays on all day, good brushes, lasts 5-7 months, and comes off with just face soap and water.

I used high-end products (Chanel, Clinique, Lancome) for many years then switched to durgstore products (maybelline mostly, l’oreal flakes like crazy in my experience) and haven’t really noticed a difference.

FutureDrAtkins :  the new Loreal Lash Paradise is supposed to be a dupe for the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, just by the way!

Personally I agree that eye shadows and liners are totally worth the extra money (urban decay shadows and stila liner are my faves) but I don’t think mascara is worth it. Cover girl Lash Blast will always be a favorite for me, but I think it also depends on your type of lashes (mine are fine, short, and blonde. lame).

pixxiefox :  I had this one before and it was good but I still get drugstore now. Doesn’t seem to make a huge difference to me.

pussinboots07 :  I’m sure there’s a ton more than what I know but I think the Lancome hypnose drama  is noticeably different. i like it because you can keep adding it without getting lumpy. I usually use revlon mascara, and that’s my splurge for special occasions.

I find the actual visual effect doesn’t differ a whole lot. It’s what happens later that’s an issue. Cheap mascara flakes leaving tiny black dots on your cheeks, or it doesn’t stay dry and wipes onto sunglasses, or it melts off in the heat, or it cant be removed without losing some lashes. Right now I use Urban Perversion because it stays on properly all day.

MrsNerdy : I just saw an ad for this today! I’ll have to check it out. I just opened a new tube of BTS so now is as best a time as ever to test them out side-by-side. Thanks for the tip!

I think it’s a personal preference thing ๐Ÿ™‚ As you can see from this thread, lots of bees have different opinions! Every beauty product will work differently on everyone, so I think the best would be to just pick one up, try it and see for yourself ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m another Tarte mascara lover ๐Ÿ˜€ I like Lights, Camera, Splashes for waterproof, and the Tarte Lifted for a sweat-proof, dark brown.

I find the higher end ones don’t smudge/crumble/clump like some of the drugstore brands do, but again, it’s different for everyone!

I don’t find a huge difference! I like Loreal’s new voluminous lash paradise (it’s a dupe for better than sex mascara, which I love) and their Voluminous hydrofuge waterproof.

I think a lot of it depends on your personal preferences. My natural lashes are extremely long and every single higher end mascara that I have tried has made them a big clumpy mess. My go to for about a year now has been L’Oréal Feline in the silver cheetah print tube. The brush is a thing of magic and the mascara is smooth and doesn’t clump my lashes together.

I sold for many prestige brands for years. Drug store mascara is superior. All the girls at mac? Wearing L’Oréal and maybelline.

Sephora has a product called Lashstash to go. It’s a sampler with 5 different mascaras for 28.00. It also includes a coupon for a full size mascara. They have 2 different ones available. Check it out. ๐Ÿ™‚

I usually use mid-range mascara and recently made the big mistake of getting drug store mascara to try to be cheap. Ugh, it is like GLUE on my lashes, it’s so goopy and harsh and nearly impossible to get off. It has broken a lot of my lashes and made them shorter. ๐Ÿ™ Never again!
