@Grizz: We have 2 rescue dogs, the first is a lab/pit mix and he was really bored without a buddy.  He just has so much energy, we would walk him and play with him but he needed some dogpanionship!  We ended up rescuing (again, no real say in the breed there, haha!) a second dog, she’s a lab/rottweiler mix and she’s totally sweet and easy going.

The pound told us to make sure we got a male/female combo instead of a male/male or female/female cuz they will fight for dominance!

I think most rescue dogs turn out really awesome, they just are happy to have a home so I wouldn’t worry too much about the breed…one of my friends says ‘every day is like waking up to christmas morning for a dog who’s been rescued’ and I think they totally embody that statement! Good luck finding a pooch when you do decide to look!

Sooo cute!

We have a lab mix and we’re planning on adopting a friend for her this week.  I don’t think that dogs NEED a playmate per say (she’s been living with us on her own for over a year just fine) but if you have the time and space to care for them and can afford it, it is certainly nice.

What @FutureKMM said…they don’t NEED a buddy, but if it’s not a strain on you to have a second dog, it IS nice.  Or you could always do dog parks or find a neighbor doggy to have playdates with.

We have a very playful pit and this summer we got him a buddy, a 6 mo old yellow lab mix.  They’re both very high energy dogs and all they do all day long is play and run around together.  Sometimes it can get a little crazy with 2 big dogs running around but I don’t think I’d want it any other way.  If you can afford it and have the space and time for a second pup…do it!

We had a 4 year old Pomeranian that we got as a puppy- we decided that he was lonely and wanted him to have a buddy when we have a baby (still TTC).  They are both little boys and get along so well.  It ended up being a good move for us, and they are too freakin cute together!

We are on the hunt for our second dog right now.  We have a lab right now, and he loves other dogs and seems sad when they have to go home, plus we love dogs and would love to have another!  We are looking at an English Coonhound mix this weekend, I was more so looking for their temperment/behavior descriptions than what breed.  I just wanted to make sure their personality is going to be similar to my current dog’s.  I also knew what size dog I wanted, so that narrowed out a lot!
