I shopped at Spence – but ended up having my ring made by a jeweler based on a design I saw (and photographed) from Spence!  I remember them having a lot of rings, but by no means do they have “all” styles.  I’ve seen more rings here on the Bee than I can remember from shopping in real life.

Definitely go there for ideas, but my experience taught me that their diamonds are NOT the best quality (although their commercials say that) and they have their own “in-house” certification system for diamonds which may not be on par with the offical ones.  Also, we SAVED about $800 by having mine made (with a better diamond) and were able to make personal changes to the design.

It’s a good place to start, but I wouldn’t buy from them!

I have a Spence Diamonds ring. ๐Ÿ™‚ My Fiance picked it out himself, but I got to go in there when I had it resized. I love my ring so much!! It is very different and I have yet to see anybody anywhere with the same thing. The only problem is, they assured my Fiance they have a wedding ring to match… and then when we went in and asked them about it, they have no idea what to match with it. Oops? I will probably get one custom made. Despite that, I love my Spence diamond ring. ๐Ÿ™‚

They do have a lot of rings. I went there for ideas but DH bought mine at a wholesaler for considerably less money. I remember thinking they were a little pushy but I loved being able to try on the fake rings without having to ask the salesperson to take each ring out of the cabinet.

Hi There,

When we were looking at rings we went into the Spence store in Calgary.  They did have ALOT of selection.  I liked being able to try on….but the sales guy was very pushy and suckered my fiance into putting a deposit on a ring.  He did get his money back as I was very knowledgeable in diamond education before we went and I think Spence diamonds are very expensive for what you get.  Also…they don’t use any reputable diamond grading i.e) GIA, AGL, EGL…etc.

We ended up finding my dream ring in Whitefish Montana and to give you an idea of cost and quality…my spence ring was a .76 centre diamond and for $600 less we got a 1.20 centre diamond ring excellent to very good specifications (polish, symmetry, table, cut, girdle, etc.) F color and SI1.

I would not recommend Spence to purchase but a great place to do soome looking.

Oh…and I did look elsewhere for the exact ring from Spence and found it at another jeweller in Calgary with a bigger and better diamond for cheaper too!

Hope this helps and good luck,

Oh, hahaha… my ring is from the Spence in Calgary! We found the salespeople to be extremely not pushy and super friendly and awfully helpful. My Fiance told them his budget at the start, and they were very careful to help him keep to it. The Spence in Calgary has the best salespeople we have ever dealt with anywhere! Isn’t it amazingly funny how different people’s perspectives on a store can be, depending on which salesperson they get? Heheh, awesome. I agree that if you aren’t certain that you want to buy there, they are at the very least the best place to go get ideas and freely try on lots of different styles to see what suits you. Good luck, OP!

My set is from Spence. Actually all the jewlery Fiance has given is from them and I love it. Fiance went there asked them what he wanted, he saw it, loved it, bought it lol. We went back together to see the band that goes with my set and wow I’m so in love. We found his band as well which I’ll be getting in a couple of monhts. Our sales guy was awesome, not pushy at all, helped us alot making our choice.

I tried on rings at the Spence in Edmonton, but we didn’t end up getting my ring there. It was great for getting to try on lots of different rings without having a salesperson following you around and having to take each one out for you and hearing your discussions about what you like and don’t like about each ring.

I don’t know what everyone is saying about spence not using GIA certified diamonds.  My ring is from Spence and I have an appraisal from Spence that is validated by GIA and on the diamond certificate, it was graded by a GIA diamond graduate.

I love my ring by the way and he got the matching wedding band also.

I went to Spence back in September. It was a good place to get a feel for what I wanted in general. I would say that they have all the basic styles of engagement rings. I however found their selection not to my tastes. I’m going to buy a Verragio instead as I prefer a ring with lots of intricatecies and detail.

I thoroughly enjoyed the service at Spence and I didn’t feel as if they were pushy. However, it seems as though this store in Mississauga gets a lot of cusotmers and they’re used to having people come several times before buying.

My future fiancee and I went to the Spence here in Mississauga and absolutely loved it.  The girl there was amazingly helpful and so not pushy at all.  I’m not sure what people are talking about with the certification, they do use GIA…I’ve looked at a lot of rings, all the same style and i know a bit about diamonds from having my own other jewelry appraised several times and i know the value we were shown there was better than most large jewellry stores. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and i’ve never seen so many rings in my life – SO MUCH FUN!
