I think it definitely depends on your individual style. The girls who’ve posted their taffeta dresses definitely ROCKED it! They look gorgeous!
I fell in love with the Jenna by Maggie Sottero, and unfortunately for me personaly I did not like how it photographed at all, due to the material. But that’s my individual taste – I didn’t like the shiny-ness of it in photos. I LOVED the dress when I had it on, and really thought it was THE ONE, but then I saw the photos, and I knew it just wasn’t my style with all the shine from the taffeta, and wouldn’t really fit my country wedding.
But that being said, I think it’s totally up to your own taste and style! Rock it if you love it!
Here’s me in the Jenna when I was trying it on:
VERY shiny, but still a gorgeous dress!!!

I’ve been told that the point and shoot type cameras flash can give it that shiny look, but pro none of the pro photog pics I have seen of taffeta dresses do that. I think it’s more the problem with the camera than the material!

Good point – unfortunately though I did NOT want to take the chance! No taffeta for me! 🙂 But that’s good to know for girls who have taffeta and don’t want the shine, but there are lots of girls who DO like the shine and look amazing in it. 🙂 For me though, it wasn’t right for me.

Did you get this dress? I would love to see photos!!! I really liked this dress but didn’t try it on because I can’t stand the “feeling” of taffeta (have nothing against the appearance, it’s lovely.
I would love to see your photos!

OMG that dress is GORGEOUS!!!

Mine is taffeta, and it feels SO expensive! It’s not shiny, which is what I wanted.

Beautiful dresses ladies!! I don’t think taffeta looks cheap at all. My first dress was silk taffeta and I loved the fabric. I loved how light it felt and it looked great!
(the dress I’ll actually be wearing is my dream dress in terms of style, but the fabric is polyester satin and organza–I can’t believe Priscilla of Boston charges what they do for non-silk fabrics!!–and I do miss the fabric of my first dress! I get so hot trying on my dress and my wedding is in DC in June, eeek!)
Enjoy your beautiful dresses, everyone!

OMGOMG! Mine is just the Tabrett (has a crumb catcher). You’re the first person I’ve seen with my dress (well, VERY close). How exciting!!! You’re going to look gorgeous in it!

I hope not 😉 Mine is taffeta, but it is more matte than shiny. I love the material! So light and I dont have to worry about it snagging.

I love your gown! It’s like my dream dress, haha. Would you mind sharing the designer/ name of it? Thanks 🙂

Awww. Thanks. Its Mori Lee 4163 in pearl (not white). I love it. I bought a beaded sash and lace bolero to jazz it up a bit. Hey, Im a teacher too (and a bit of a geek).

I think matte taffeta gowns are really pretty; the only time they look cheap is when it’s a synthetic taffeta that’s as shiny as a mirror! All of your dresses look beautiful!!

So..I always said I hated taffeta. When I was looking for a dress I specifically said I did not want taffeta..and what did I end up with? A taffeta dress! lol
I love my taffeta dress..it’s light weight and I don’t think it looks cheap…granted I don’t think it looks like a 10,000 dollar gown..but I don’t think it looks cheap by any means. Now….even though I love my taffeta dress..and I love these dresses posted here…I think some taffeta dresses are ugly..but that’s with any fabric I think. But yeah…go with taffeta! It’s light weight and a great summer fabric!
