I found a beautiful cake topper online that is in my price range and the bride and groom have dark hair. I am caucasian and my fiance is half Ethiopian and half Arab. He has light brown skin. It has pretty much been IMPOSSIBLE to find a cake topper that looks like us. And the ones that are interracial are always a white and African American person. The ones that do have men with tan skin also have a woman with tan skin. The interchangeable ones that I am finding aren’t good quality, are expensive, and have very bad reviews. I cannot spend more than $35 on a cake topper and found a beautiful one, but is it wrong or unusual to have a cake topper that doesn’t look exactly like you? (the skin tone of the groom is white). Does this really matter?? I am curious how important this actually is before I go ahead and purchase this cake topper.
Thanks!

@niasg1: Thanks! We want people though. So I was wondering if the people do not look just like you, if that is considered ok.. ?

It certainly doesn’t have to look like you, but I wouldn’t choose some that look like another couple instead (e.g., two white ppl when one of you is not white). I would go for more vague (no race distinguishable) human forms or something else entirely, like monogram or animals etc. I wouldn’t go for incorrect race because it might be read into like “I wish he was this rather than that” or something.

Considering I saw another poster who has pink narwhals as their topper… no. I don’t think it’s a big deal and I doubt anyone is going to care what you put on the top of your cake.

@August2013Bride: Here is a link to a thread where OP had her cake topper customized based off of pictures she sent into the seller. They came out great!

@August2013Bride: as a brown person I would prefer to be represented as brown! Otherwise it wouldn’t be me! Ask him.

@August2013Bride: I personally dont think they have to look exactly like you unless there is a signifcant difference such as in the case of my Fiance and I. He is Italian/Irish and I am Black American/Cherokee it would be very noticeable if they didnt resemble us.

I think in the past it wasnt expected. But now, I think most people would expect it. (And as someone who is half-brown I’d want to be represented.)
First I would contact the company that made the topper (not the one who is selling it) you like. See if there is anything you can do.
If not, try Etsy. If there is something you like, but is out of your price range, contact the seller and see what they can do that is in your price range.
Here are some in your price range

@KoiKove: Thank you so much KoiKove! I however couldn’t find any human cake toppers with a tan skinned groom. They have one there for $30 but it’s a deposit you make for something that is $85. Yikes. I have asked my fiance and he really doesn’t care, he is happy as long as they look human, lol. He is very easy going. I however though would love to have one with a groom with light brown skin for him. It just might not be in the cards for me because everywhere I look if you want to make a customizable topper (and they are just lovely) you have to pay a fortune and I with all the other wedding expenses I just cannot afford them. But I will have to think more and look more into this! It’s hard to find!

I have the same issue. I’m white & blond. Man is tan (latino), with long black hair, and he’s the same height as me. NO CAKE TOPPERS LOOK ANYTHING LIKE US! We didn’t do a cake topper for our wedding in his country as a result. I think we won’t do one in my country either… but you can do initials, hearts, or whatever. I’d go for something like that before getting a bride and groom that didn’t look like us.

I think if you’re going to specifically put people on top of the cake it does look strange if they look nothing like you. There are so many amazing options for cake toppers that match wedding themes but aren’t people. Or perhaps a vendor on Etsy could custom paint one for you or something.

@star_dust: Thanks. The ones on etsy cost a fortune and we do want humans. I am more open to having other things on top but for some reason he wants people! 🙂 the cake topper I am looking at does look like, both bride and groom have dark hair. The only thing is the groom is lighter than what my fiance is. It is hard to find one as well that has hair like his (coarse). I think we may just have to go with one that is not exact. Either that or fork out $100-$200 for a customized one.
