i have been married 3 months today! hooray, just had to get that out there
My husband just recently started traveling for work – he had a trip the day we got back from our honeymoon and this is the second trip since – only 3 days to Cali so its not too bad. In fact – i kind of find myself getting excited when he has quick business trips like that.
Dont get me wrong i love spending everyday of my life with him but i am really looking forward to some girly tv shows and painting my toes – maybe ill even get crazy and take a bubble bath and put a face mask on tonight – his business trips are like a mini vacation at home for me!
ill be super excited when he gets back but i am totally enjoying having the house to myself.
anyone else feel this way?

@totheislnds: I’m starting to get there.
Fiance is currently working most of his time out of the London office.
Next trip he takes he’ll be gone for a month! (At least I get to go over for a week an visit).
This will be the 3rd time he’s gone since March. After the first day it’s pretty easy for me to get into the swing of doing my own thing.
I just miss him terribly on weekends (when I don’t have other plans) and when I get in bed at night.

ALL THE TIME! He left Tuesday morning and will be getting back in tonight (well, technically tomorrow morning) at 4 am. The week after next, he will be gone for four days. Some months the travel is heavier than others, but it’s rare for him to go an entire week without having at least a couple day trip. In the beginning when he started this job it bothered me a LOT (I also had a newborn at the time, that probably didn’t help any) but now I’m better at dealing with it and am just more used to it. Though it does get lonely sometimes, especially when he’s gone for five or six days. That’s just a drag.

a month! I can imagine thats tough – maybe i get excited because they have been short trips – he isnt gone long enough for me to really miss him and they have all been during the week so im stuck at work all day anyway but i get a few hours to myself at night.

Yep, between April and October he’s gone anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks every month. I’m not a fan of it, but after 3 1/2 years of him being at this job, I’m getting used to it. I can easily handle a week, but when it gets to 1 1/2 or 2 weeks at a time, it’s tough. We are getting married the 5th weekend of July and he’ll be gone for the 2nd and 3rd weekends that month…oy vey!

PenguinGuy is Navy so…yeah, he travels for work. As much as I love him and miss him though it does give me time (in theory!) to do the stuff I want to do, cook the meals I like that he doesn’t, and have some quality girl time as my friends’ husbands are usually gone with mine!
It also gives me an excuse to travel. Since we have been together I have met the ship in ME, MA, FL, London, and I am making plans for a trip to meet him in Key West. Traveling/meeting your SO while he is gone is a great way to visit places you might not have considered going before!

It’s hard, but it is temporary. He’ll only be traveling this much until we both move to London after the wedding.
I don’t know that I would want to do the 3 weeks apart, 1 week together routine for a long time.

Yup- his busy season is February-August…and it just depends when he has to leave, we got back from our Honeymoon last Saturday and he had to leave Monday and he will be back tomorrow.
He is usually gone about 2 weeks every month…hurry up August!!!

Yep – my DH travels pretty much every week from Monday to Thursday. I guess that is what I get for marrying a healthcare consultant! 🙂
Although I don’t love it and hope he doesn’t continue travelling FOREVER, it isn’t as bad as everyone seems to think it would be. People hear how he travels and think it must be so terrible but since I work all day too, the only time I miss seeing him is in the evenings.
I definitely prefer it when he is around though. 🙂

Mine doesn’t, and I’m glad. I hate it when he’s away. I get so lonely!

Mine does, about once a month. I enjoy it, it gives me time to watch whatever chick flicks I want, and just relax and take a bath or do whatever “girly” things I want. Oh and I can take up the whooooooole bed!

I’m the one who travels for work. I usually take 2-3 trips/month and they’re all 2-3 days in length. I was away Saturday-Tuesday this week. I know DH looks forward to having the remote control and the bed to himself, but he also looks forward to me coming home and getting to spend time relaxing together.
Also, I love to travel and DH doesn’t, so I get to see the sites all over the country/world, visit friends who’ve moved away and try new restaurants on the company’s dime, and he gets to be a couch potato!

Yep. he travels for a week at a time about 6-7 times per year. It’s nice for the first day or two, but then I get lonesome. Plus, I end up stuck at home all week because of the dogs… so it gets really boring to just be at home the whole time.

My husband travels 3-4 times/year for about 10-20 days at a time (all international travel). I LOVE IT! Of course, I really miss him – the part I hate the most is going to bed and waking up alone – but I love having the house to myself, watching Bravo crap all the time and never watching Sports Center, getting up early (my husband is a total night owl), and just generally getting to do whatever I want. I would prefer that he traveled twice as often for half the time, but you get what you get…
I also love all the miles he racks up (so we can fly first class or use them to travel for fun).

The dog is one of my issues with his traveling too. I have to go straight home from work when he’s gone because I have a 40+ min commute, so by the time I get home, she’s been alone for 10ish hours. It totally messes with my gym routine and I can’t do anything on weeknights.
