My Darling Husband has never used any sort of product in his hair, and has started to grow his hair kinda long (it’s always been buzzed in the past). He asked me what kind of products guys use and I have no clue on earth.
So I’m asking you. What do your guys use? What works and what doesn’t? Do you like What he uses or is it too greasy/crunchy/slimy?
What’s the easiest product to start with for a guy who’s never used anything? Anyone with wisdom about men’s hair styling products?

About four years ago when we first started dating we were seniors in highschool and he used Garnier Fructis Surf Hair Texture Paste (aka: goop) everyday to create this wavy messy type of look with his hair. I didn’t mind it at first but after like six months or something I guess I realised it was way too sticky/crunchy. Like his hair was all stick together and you couldn’t run your fingers through it AT ALL. The smell wasn’t bad though haha 😉
Now he doesn’t put anything in it unless it’s kind of poofy after blowdrying it and in those situations he uses some of that Surf Hair stuff he has left over from highschool haha.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend a ‘texture paste’ to a guy who isn’t used to hair products because it can be hard to get the right amount/texture if you’re not used to it. If you put too much it’s hard to fix and soooooo sticky/clumpy haha.

he only uses it when i ask him to or if we’re going somewhere nice. it’s american crew pomade. i also use a tiny bit to set my eyebrows, too 🙂

He had really dry hair and a dry scalp so I bought him a cream leave in conditioner and it makes a huge difference! But he never wears styling products like gel or anything…

Mr.TKE uses whatever is the cheapest stuff on the shelf. I really don’t touch his hair though (in fear that it will all fall out). I love the man to death, but I wish I could give him some of my hair (super thick and long). He is 26, has a receding hairline and will loose probably all of his hair by the time he’s…oh, IDK…35? Yea…receding hair line runs on his mom’s side, super-fine hair runs on his dad’s…it’s NOT a good combo.
Oh back to the point…He uses it to cover up his receding hairline. So like a dime size squirt to just smooth his hair forward. I guess that’s probably why he doesn’t care what he uses.

Makes his hair look great, but it is a little bit on the crunchy side. Not really sure what he uses though… I think it’s a pomade of sorts.

This is what Fiance uses:
He has short curly hair, so this gives his hair texture. It makes his hair smell amazing, and you can barely tell he’s wearing any. It’s expensive, but he doesn’t use a lot of it, so it goes a long way.

I voted “don’t care”, “gel”, and “N/A”.
Currently it’s N/A, his hair is really really short right now. When it’s a little bit longer, he uses gel.

My Darling Husband uses gel, but does not buy his own – he just uses mine

My partner uses what ever I buy lol. But there is one by moose I think that has a blue lid that smells good and doesnt go crunchy

My fiancé doesn’t even comb his hair!

Mine uses some sport gel (it’s blue) and it looks great. Sometimes it doesn’t feel fantastic, but I don’t really care.

Fiance uses American Crew Fiber, which smells nice and never gets crunchy, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it for a rookie product user, because it can be tricky to use a small enough amount and get it to spread around good. I’m sure your Darling Husband could figure it out, though! Maybe warn him to use less of whatever he tries than he thinks he’ll need.

Just like a PP my Fiance has really fine hair that is receding. When it is pretty short it looks alright but he doesnt like going to the hair dresser. When it gets long it starts getting really frizzy. I ended up getting him Frizz Ease by john frieda and he likes it.

My guy uses American Crew Fiber as well. I’m pretty sure he only started using it after he got a haircut and they used it on him, though — not sure he would have done it on his own.
Next time your Fiance goes for a haircut, maybe suggest that he ask the hairdresser for suggestions on what would be good for his type of hair and the style he likes? They could show him what to use and how much, how to apply it, etc.. If he usually goes to a barber that doesn’t deal with products at all, maybe just once he could go to a regular salon to get a cut and some advice!
