Most bizarre question yet: A family member said her husband can’t come to the wedding, so she wants to know if she can bring her tiny designer dog with her instead. She says it will stay in the carrier. How do I tell her no? I hate saying no to people!

“Sorry, no pets allowed at the wedding.”

Erm, maybe try our venues won’t allow it, unless it is a guide dog, sorry. Super odd request. 🙁

I had a guest ask me this too! She wanted though to bring her huge golden retriever. What are people thinking, seriously?
I said to her. “Um, no, I’m sorry.”
Straight and simple. For a request like that I think it’s perfectly acceptable to NOT want a dog at your wedding.

That is definitely the weirdest request I’ve ever heard! I would just say that your venue doesn’t allow animals.

“No!” straight to the point!

Wow, that’s SO weird. Tell her the venue doesn’t allow any animals unless they are service animals.

@abbie017: << This. I would think it is actually a health and safety thing at a venue serving food!

Great suggestions about blaming it on the venue. The only problem, though, is that her mother somehow managed to get her bichon frise registered as a service dog just so she could carry it on planes, so I wouldn’t put it past this cousin to have the dog registered as a service dog to get around this!
I’m going to just have to tell her no.

How totally weird. I’d blame it on the venue! Actually, I’d say “hell no, that’s gross and ridiculous”, but you’re probably nicer than I am.

There are no. words.
I totally agree with blaming it on the venue. And if she pushes it, having someone else in the family step in and be the bad cop and put a stop to this nonsense.
This is a new one. WOW.

definitely blame it on the venue!

A dog is not a “date” a dog is a pet. So the answer is obviously no unless it’s a guide dog for the blind or hearing impaired. All public buildings where it’s not a residence has that rule: no pets are allowed in the establishment. She says the dog will be in a carrier, and thinks that makes it okay?
Uhhh what? Just tell her the venue won’t allow it.

Uhh..I would try to be nice and maybe say “I’m sorry, but I know having a dog there will make some of the other guests uncomfortable, and the venue doesn’t allow non-service animals anyways.” If she still pushes it, I would just say “I’m sorry, our decision is final. No animals.”.
What a whack job.
