oh no! I haven’t had a dog with the stones, but I had a cat with the stones and he had to get the PU surgery to widen his urethera path so that he could pass the stones. It worked, but he was only aloud to eat soft foods to prevent stones from forming. The surgery cost $1200 but it worked he never had a problem after that.

What food were you feeding your dog before?  If it has any byproducts in it or corn then that could be a reason your pup was developing stones corn products are no good. We only feed our dogs Blue Buffalo which is all natural NO CORN and they have never had any problems, they just look fabulous. Their coats are extremely shiny and they are always regular and our vet always comments how healthy they are. You might want to speak with your vet about using blue buffalo food rather than the $90 food because that’s ALOT of money for food.

Your poor pup, I know it is hard to go through hopefully a change in diet will help resolve the problem. Hang in there I can see you are a great dog mom!

I have 2 Shih tzu’s and they are both on their 2nd round of bladder stones.  We tried the RX dog food but it didn’t do any good.  They’ve had the surgery once and will have to have it again soon…good luck!

@NJmeetsBX: Yeah I would take a look at the Nutro ingredients, it might be good, but you never know. The ingredients should be really simple and when you read it you should know what it is, if not than it’s probably not good.

I think you should definitely get a second opinion from your regular vet for sure.

@soon2beMrsGP: What surgery did your pups get?

they had the surgery to remove the stones.  I forget what kind of stones they had-there are a few kinds if I remember right.  Calcium oxilate sticks in my head but i’m not sure.
